"Slaying of intruder raises KC toll to 127 (MO)"
Kansas City Star ^ | Saturday, December 31, 2005 | KEVIN HOFFMANN and TONY RIZZO

Posted on 12/31/2005 2:50:25 PM PST by DaveLoneRanger

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A 50-year-old Kansas City man died Friday when he was shot after returning to the house of a woman who had a full order of protection against him.

Police said the shooter apparently acted in self-defense after the man forced his way into a house in the 11300 block of Orchard Road in south Kansas City and threatened several residents.

According to police, the man entered the home about 9:30 p.m. Thursday and threatened residents with a knife. One of the residents began struggling with the man, and a second resident shot the intruder in the leg.

The intruder was taken to a hospital, where he died Friday morning. His identity was not released Friday."

The problem may not be going away.

"Last update - 11:39 31/12/2005
Four IDF soldiers hospitalized with severe pneumonia
By Amos Harel and Nir Hasson, Haaretz Correspondents and Haaretz Service

Four Israel Defense Forces soldiers were hospitalized at Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva on Friday after contracting pneumonia.

One of the soldiers hospitalized is listed in very serious condition.

Three of the soldiers hospitalized were airlifted from Yoseftal Hospital in Eilat so that doctors can observe all the pneumonia patients in one hospital.

The army on Thursday decided to send hundreds of soldiers who are undergoing basic training in the Negev army base to their homes, in order to prevent the disease from spreading. IDF Spokesman said that soldiers from other departments in the base might be asked to remain in their homes and not yet return to serve in the base."

I am not sure the dates/timeline is adding up.
Also, and on a different topic, in Haaretz, there is an article that someone is cutting down the olive trees. This act, whoever did it, really gets the blood stirring over in the Middle East. Insult to injury sort of thing.

Happy New Year
Count your rounds.

Things are settling down here in CA. Uncontrolled rivers like the Russian and Napa hit at record levels. Apart from some urban flooding, most of the state has come through ok. Huge amounts of rain which is finally turning to snow in the mountains, reducing runoff. However, I-80 between Truckee and Reno is closed due to a massive landslide. Alternative routes are slowly becoming available but are prone to flooding and landslides. I just hope this moisture can get to Texas and OK where they need it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COMBINED RAIDS RESULT IN 23 CAPTURES

TIKRIT, Iraq – Iraqi and U.S. Soldiers captured 23 suspected terrorists who were the targets of three raids Dec. 30 and Dec. 31 in northern Iraq.

Soldiers from Iraq’s 2nd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 5th Army Division and 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division captured the primary target of the operation along with 10 more suspected terrorists west of Muqdadiyah. The operation was designed to pick up a Baath Party leader who was behind many attacks on Iraqi and U.S. forces, and the civilian population in the area.

Elsewhere, more Soldiers from 2nd Bn., 2nd Bde., 5th IAD and 3rd BCT, 3rd ID nabbed four anti-Iraqi forces as part of a time sensitive raid on two houses in Muqdadiyah. The troops used tips from informants on the whereabouts of the four individuals who are believed to be responsible for IED and small arms attacks against the Coalition and Iraqi security forces in the local area.

Troops from the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment zeroed in on eight people involved in terrorist activities in Tal Afar. All eight of the suspects were picked up without incident in the raid and taken to a nearby military base for questioning.

None of the Soldiers involved in the two days of operations were injured as they continued to remove those responsible for acts of terrorism and violence against the civilians and security forces in the area.

It was something short of a miracle!!

Thinking anymore people need to hire private eyes and do checks to verify what serious dates and future spouses are telling you is true or not. If companies would do that to verify a person's hireability, shouldn't it be appropriate to do the same for someone you plan to spend a lot of time or a lifetime with?

Sometimes when you think you really know some people, you find they have financial, gambling, alcohol or anger / control / personality issues. Sure glad things are substantially better now and you're heading for a superb 2006 :-)
