I thank'em. The so-called "Patriot Act" is an incredibly dangerous piece of work, and NO PART of it should EVER be made permanent US law. ALL PARTS should ONLY be renewable on a time-limited basis, preferably by a requirement for a two-thirds majority.
"We have more to fear from terrorism than we do from this Patriot Act," Frist warned.
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." Benjamin Franklin
Hmmm...
These people are a disgrace.
Perhaps they considered provisions within the bill to be "extra-constitutional"...............
instead of partisan?
These people did the right thing. Supporting the totalitarianism of the Patriot Act is shameful. I am glad that they stood up to the rest of the "republicans" and told them where to stick it.
I'll be sure to call and thank them.
If the federal government really cared about security, the southern border would be closed, and immigration would be tightly controlled at every entry point.
The Patriot Act isn't for fighting terrorism; it is for controlling citizens.
Some of these politicians will never get it until the Capitol building in DC is blown up.
Hagel is a globalist RINO. No kidding. He's a yearly attendee at the Bilderberg meeting, and I don't trust him further than I can throw him.
Glad it got shot down!
At issue for gun owners is a provision that would allow the FBI to obtain "firearms sales records." The bill extends Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act and allows agents of the federal government to get "firearms sales records" which, in their opinion, are relevant to investigating terrorism.
These records would be obtained from gun dealers, who are required by law to keep the gun purchase records (4473 forms). Thus, an anti-gun administration could then easily compile gun owner registration lists -- an enterprise which has often been a prelude to gun confiscation.
If I were Murkowski, I might consider holding out to get ANWR signed.
