massive oil deposits, close to 30 billion tons, in Central India. This can't be true. The news media told me we've already reached peak oil, and I trust them.

Good news for American Oil industry.
India will send students to our universities to learn petroleum engineering and geology, and then be able to run their own oil industry.
Unlike the middle east, which after 50 years still can't do without westerners.

Can this be true?
Saudi sized reserves beneath the Deccan plateau? Which means in 1 stroke, oil exports alone would equal some 50% of present Indian GDP. I'm less than convinced about these claims however.
If its true, however, expect the Indian biggies to take a fair share of the action - the ONGCs and Reliances of the world have been growing furiously over the years.
The article's well written. Good humor and all.

We have the opportunity to band together to restore Asia's role as the vanguard of civilization, . . . ," he said. "Asia only lost the role around 200 years ago. I agree on the principal, but believe this happened more like 1,000 years ago, or whenever it was that the Chines built the Great Wall. I feel supid not knowing the correct date, but I'm sure a more knowledeable FReeper will put it out there.
