Look Mike, I've been there, the only recreation during a year-long deployment to nowhere being a little web surfing and emailing, but get some rest now.
You've got a lot more important things to do (I am sure) than this.
I stand by my opinion that Osteen looks and sounds to me like a huckster.
Don't like it? Well, you're entitled to your own opinion. And so am I.
P.S. That guilt trip thing don't work with me. Its just a crutch used to beat people into line with.
What was that Jesse Ventura said a few years back?
"Organized religion is a crutch for the weak?"
Yup, it sure offended me back then. But it doesn't any more. Turns out Jesse was right.

I think Joel is the real deal but his wife is a phoney. Just my opinion.

Jesus wore a seamless garment. These were very expensive.
Source? In fact, the garment you describe was called a talit, and all but the poorest pious men had them.
Jesus also had a treasurer. Judas. If He didn't have money...He wouldn't have needed one.
Who had a treasurer? Jesus, or His mobile group of disciples numbering from a dozen to sometimes hundreds? The fact is that this precisely what teachers and their students did in First Century Galilee. It was quite common, and very view of those teachers could be called "wealthy". Most of them were day laborers, and spent their free time teaching and studying. In First Century parlance, a Torah-teacher that was a common laborer was well regarded.
Some of the disciples may have been well off, but we are given the contrary picture of the Master Himself. His adopted father Joseph was certainly not a wealthy man. In Luke 2, we see them paying for Mary's purification sacrifice by a bird sacrifice - which was permitted but only for the poor.
He had wealthy friends, but of Himself He said,
When Yeshua [Jesus] saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. A Torah-teacher approached and said to him, 'Rabbi, I will follow you wherever you go.' Yeshua said to him, 'The foxes have holes, and the birds flying about have nests, but the Son of Man has no home of his own.' Matthew 18:18-20 CJB
The "Jesus was rich" apology has been offered by many in "health and wealth" ministries over the years - all for the express purpose of excusing their excesses. Biblically, historically, and archeologically, it is a myth. He was poor of His own volition, and He humbled Himself by His own will.
If people are wealthy, fine and good - but don't claim "Jesus was too, so it is OK." Being wealthy is OK - but not because "Jesus was."

Ridiculous and uncalled-for comment. Shame on you.
Wait until you get further into the thread! ;-)

Joel Osteen has declined to take a salary (last reported at $200,000) from Lakewood, due to the success of his best selling book, "Your Best Life Now". (Rick Warren also does not take a salary from his church due to successful book sales.)

In all of this, my big problem is the reported behavior running down the aisle and all that.
And try as I might, Joel reminds me of that old country tune "would Jesus wear a Rolex on his television show?"

Is this a correct? Did they really spend 90 large on a building? Hell no, it was $200 million! Here it is.
To: Larry Lucido; handy
Oh, wait, that was Our Lady of Angels in LA. I'm SOOO embarassed!
To: Halls
Sounds to me like she is a b*tch!
EXACTLY!!! And if Joel wasn't such a wimp he'd have told her to sit down and shut her mouth. It's always been apparent who wears the pants in that family.

There can't be an intelligent discussion without a free flow of information.
And speaking of intelligent discussion, you certainly have a potty mouth. That is not the mark of an intelligent discussion.

The reason why I call his wife a phoney is because of the Larry King interview. She actually said she NEVER gets sexually tempted and would never EVER entertain a sexual fantasy about another man. Who is to say she'll never get challenged by someone else?

God hates "religion". He wants a relationship, it's all about a personal relationship with Christ. But we must ask God for that relationship, in Christ's name.
Some people are gifted to teach the Bible the way it was meant to be taught - literally, and word by word. Others as you say it, are hucksters...
Best,

"I think Joel is the real deal but his wife is a phoney. Just my opinion."
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
That's the equivalent of saying 'Turns out Hitler was the real deal but Himmler was a phony'
Are you guys who are making excuses for the Osteens' thinking tonight????
To: Petronski; cyborg
Check out my 318, 329 and 330. I have no real use for Osteen, but I'm am feeling a tad mischevious. :-)

Victoria, think postively.
She needs to stay awake during church.
