And so far, most New Yorkers support the union (52%-40%), according to Survey USA, believe it or not.

The strike is probably still novel, like the power going out and everyone getting excited about camping in the living room. Give it a week or two and watch attitudes change.

They need to throw Toussant's butt in jail! I can't believe they're getting away with this stunt. The mayor was right when he called them thugs.

The City has come to a grinding halt, IMHO. And, the tourists who booked their "Christmas in New York" tour have to be suffering as well.

We secretly replaced terrorism with Union Thugs. I'll bet New York's economy can't tell the difference.

Unfortunately, I think Bloomberg is right - it didn't work with Mike Quill in 1966 and I don't think it will work now.

Bloomberg should fire the transit workers for this law breaking illegal strike (just like when Reagan fired the Air Traffic Controlers for their illegal strike back in the early 1980's). The police should step in and temporarily operate the trains on a limited basis, I'm sure they've been trained how.

Sure, just call in the national guard. Reagan busted patco by bringing in the military and retirees.

1000 workers already want to cross.

I was explaining the transit strike to my daughter and mentioned Steve Doocey commenting that cars must have four or more passengers to travel in NYC. Is this true? If so, is it just during the busy Christmas season or all the time?

Neither. It's not all the time nor just during the Christmas season. It's just for yesterday and today so far. It's only because of the strike.

What rotgut little Scroogies the unions are to do this the week of Christmas. To do this to the hardworking people and businesses of New York at this time of year is awful and wretched. Didn't Reagan fire the air traffic controllers strike? Get rid of 'em. Unions are scum IMO.

Store rentals are high in NYC. The big stores and chains can weather a drop in Christmas business from the strike. However, the small, independent stores and the mom-and-popperies could be put right out of business forever. This is because most smaller retailers make anywhere from 50 to 80% of their business in December/January.

Can you imagine the high hopes and then the shattered dreams of the shop-owning families who had worked like dogs and who had invested hard-earned money into stocking their shelves while looking forward to a brisk holiday trade?

The union's timing is cruel, vicious, evil, and pure extortion. I hope its leaders and members stockings are empty this Christmas, also. But we know nothing will happen to them......they'll get "amnesty" in the settlement we know will happen sooner or later.

But the lives of many hard-working NYC retailers and their hapless employees will be altered, maybe forever.

The union wretches that stole Christmas........

I do think Toussaint should be jailed--but not until the strike is over.

Anyone who thinks that the typical New Yorker, liberal or not, actually supports this strike doesn't know what they're talking about. Pure & utter nonsense. The local's parent union doesn't even support it. I wonder what's taking them so long to dissolve the power the heads of the local wield.

What I wonder more, though, is how so many people can continue to post on a thread about how Bloomberg should fire the strikers no matter how many others try to explain that he does not have the authority to do so.
