December 21, 2005 -- A cabby belted an Upper East Side woman in the face last night after she argued that she was overcharged on an eight-block ride, police said ......... Lillian Gauna, 34, said she hailed the cab at 88th Street and Third Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. and asked the driver to take her to 81st Street and Second Avenue.
The driver, Muhammed Lone, 29, insisted she pay an extra $5 on top of the $10 "single zone" flat fare that the new strike rules call for, she said.
When she refused, Lone allegedly leaped out of his yellow cab and punched her in the face.
Cops arrested him for assault. She declined medical treatment.

Those are some stressed out cabbies up there in New York. A couple of them about got into a fight over who was going to take me to the airport once.
She probably coulda walked the 10 blocks and used the exercise.
Cabbies were making out like bandits all morning.
Some handicapped woman only went 4 blocks and he still charged her 10 dollars.
Another passerby was nice and paid for her.
That's only an eight block walk, about 15 to 20 minutes tops. At 34 years old she should have walked. No wonder there are so many fat people in our Country.
Why are you defending or joking about a woman being assaulted ?
According to NY1 she had Christmas gifts and had already walked for a while.
Plus its bitterly cold in the city.
Yep, the cabbies are using this strike zone system as a way to line their pockets. Everyone in my office that used the cabs on day one had stories of overcharging and attempted overcharging.
So cabbies are hanging around just outside a zone boundary so they can drive one extra block and double the fare.
New Yorkers are calling BS on this practice and now a cabbie took a swing at one.
He is probably here on a student visa, that expired 10 years ago.
She couldn't walk 8 blocks? Of course, now she just won the lawsuit lottery. Will she sue the City, the TWU, or the MTA?
So, are your saying she deserved to be punched in the face because should refused to pay his extortion demand?

Id get a cab too instead of walking alone at night in the bitter cold.

At a stoplight today in the city, one cabbie rolled down his window and yelled to another cab driver "I hope this strike never stops, haha"
It capitalism at work. Charge what the traffic will bear. I see no problem since no one is forcing the people to take the cab.
Aww c'mon wudya?? Youse dont kill sumbody becuz dey want a 5 block ride. Mebbe a coupla brokenlegs or sumpin'...
