That's pretty clever. They change the symbols for the 9 multiples every time knowing people will try it with a different number so it fools you (or me, not you).

Some magician on TV did a trick with the TV audience participating..
Something like 15 cards from a deck were shown on the screen and he asked each viewer to sit up close to the screen so they could touch it.
He then asked for everybody in TV Land to place their finger on the screen to any card they wished.
He then directed the tv audience to move their finger from the first position to a 2nd one, then a 3rd, and a 4th....based on his instructions, while many options were made avaialable to choose from. It all seemed as though the tv viewer was in control.
Cards would eventually be eliminated, and, after about 10 minutes, your finger was touching the tv screen on the sole remainingg card.
It was far out, man.

There's actually a very narrow range of numbers that can be the result. Possible results are 18, 27, 36, 45, etc...
For instance, if your starting number is 20, then two plus zero is two. Then twenty minus two is 18. But what if your starting number is twenty one? Well, two plus one is three. And twenty one minus three is also eighteen. Which means that twenty and twenty one both result in eighteen. As does 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29, all of which result in 18.
(20) 20-2=18
(21) 21-3=18
(22) 22-4=18
(23) 23-5=18
(24) 24-6=18
Moving on to the 30's... all of them result in 27.
(30) 30-3=27
(31) 31-4=27
(32) 32-5=27
(33) 33-6=27
(34) 34-7=27

This will keep the grankids quiet over the holidays for at least a minute, minute and a half. Now their parents, they won`t sleep until they figure it out.
Thanks for the fun.

LOL, well, all I know is that if you don't pick a number, it's not smart enough to figure out that you didn't.

Your answer will always be a multiple of 9. The symbols change with each reload, but the muliples of 9 are all the same.

Maybe we should send this to congress. It would keep them busy for months. I'm sure there would be an inquiry. Bush's fault and all.

any two digit number is 10*x + y
subtracting the digits yields
10*x +y - x-y = 9x
which must be divisible by 9, and every multiple of 9 under 99 has digits which add to 9.
Why, I don't know.

any two digit number is 10*x + y subtracting the digits yields 10*x +y - x-y = 9x which must be divisible by 9, and every multiple of 9 under 99 has digits which add to 9. How is that different from what I said?

It's easy
All original numbers in the 20 series, (20,21,22,23, etc) have the same final answer #, 18.
All the 30 series original numbers have the same final answer #, 27
All the 40 series have the same final answer #, 36.
18,27,36,45,54,63, etc. all have the same symbol each time, but it always rotates on the screen so you can't discern a pattern.
Send in your $ It's a good cause.
