December 22, 2005 -- WHILE countless ordinary New Yorkers were trudging home from work in the bitter cold Tuesday night due to the transit strike, Transport Workers Union boss Roger Toussaint and his chaos-causing labor cronies were living the high life at an upscale uptown eatery. Toussaint and his comrades were in a jubilant mood at chichi Harlem Grill, an elegant supper club on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard with gleaming candelabras, antique mirrors and live jazz.
A spywitness tells PAGE SIX's Fernando Gil: "[Toussaint and his party] were there for at least 2 1/2 hours. People kept coming and going all night, but there must have been at least six people at their table at all times.
"They were drinking, eating and joking," the witness relates. "At one point, the owner or manager of the restaurant came over to make sure they'd been taken care of. I heard a man in their group say, 'Do you think they're all going to stay home tomorrow?' — and people at the table laughed."
Our source reports that Toussaint, dressed smartly in a suit, chowed down on clay pot snapper. Others at his table devoured grilled salmon, rib-eye steaks and glasses of chardonnay. In an apparent sign of solidarity with the working man, they left a $30 tip on the surprisingly modest $152 check.
Had the trains been running, Toussaint and his cronies could have taken the 1, 2, 3 or C lines to Harlem Grill, but we suspect the large-living labor leader and his fellow revelers were driven to the feast in a comfortable, heated limo.

This strike is great. It begins the great divide between liberals and unions.

Not so great if you're there, living through it.When families trying to be together on Christmas and Channukah can't because there is no way to travel this will get even uglier than it is already.

The cell phone reception from her limo must be bad. No statement. She must still be trying to triangulate a message to the poor unwashed.
Currrent retirement is 55 and the salary for a bus driver is $63,000 (not counting overtime), all medical and pension are covered by the city.
The city wants new hires to go to 62 for full retirement and pay 6% towards their retirement and medical. They're offering staggered salary increases on the order of 5,4 and 3% over the next 3 years.
The union wants retirement for all workers at 50 with full benefits, no change in pension or medical and 8% per year annual raises.
Respect my ass. This is a Hugo Chavez or Evo Morales in the making, with regular worship at the shrine of Fidel thrown in. The object is to do damage to the American economy, whatever the cost to New Yorkers or the union workers. They don't know it yet but these city employees have just been turned into canon fodder for the worldwide revolutionary forces attempting to take down the United States. The more of them that die the better, so far as Toussaint and his cronies are concerned. They require a few martyrs to get the attention of the media.
No one calls Martin Luther King a thug? Well he was an adulterer and plagiarist. He stole pages of his dissertation from someone else and the FBI documented scores of women. Being a thug would be an upgrade.
Exactly. She will say that the strike is unfortunate and causing tremendous hardship. However, she hopes that the MTA and the city can resolve their differences quickly with a win-win solution.

My guess is that he's getting ready to call some favors to garner support to run for public office in New York City.
You do not have to be a citizen to work for the MTA so it is a very good question.

The court has ruled that this strike is illegal. If Bloomberg was worth the powder it would take to blow him up, he would fire EVERYONE of the strikers and hire some people that want to work. A "million dollars" a day fine, that will never be paid ain't gonna cure the problem.
