What do you expect from a list produced by the queers at Slate.
My favorite movie for 2005 was March of the Penquins. I also liked the Cinderella Man....
And yet, it's almost impossible to find.
Actually impossible on DVD...Same with
'El Cid'. and forget ever trying to get any
TV station, broadcast, cable or sattelite
to air either of them.

"Now listen up, you primitive screwheads. See this? This... is my BOOMSTICK! The 12-gauge double-barreled Remington- S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You GOT THAT? "
Nope...diferent movie...'Becket' is much better/
Here's the IMDB page on 'Becket'
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057877/
This was an abyssmal year for film. My favorites:
Millions
Corpse Bride
King Kong
The Woodsman
A History of Violence
Syriana
Becket is not on DVD. El Cid is on DVD and is available through NetFlix.
Not only was it the best movie I watched this year but it was also one of the best movies I've seen in my lifetime. I bought the DVD as soon as it came out and I've probably watched it 5 times now. I loved it. The music, the acting, the story and a marvelous tribute to an extremely talented yet controversial and very human entertainer. RIP Ray Charles.
Another thing: David Edelstein, a genuinely preposterous writer, is a prime example of the Peter Principle at work in the news biz; effective Thursday he leaves Slate.com to gush for New York. If you think he's bad now....
Now you gone done it. I gotta go watch it again. Thanks.
Me?! YOU brought it up! LOL!
Hello, FormerACLUmember:
The best (the only) films I went to a theater to see in 2005 are.
"Sin City" and "Batman Begins".
Both are superb translations of graphic art to film!
Robert Rodriguez has proven that "Blue Screen" is solidly here to stay. To the point of making an enitre film with the process.
BTW: Marv and Miho RAWK!!!!
"Batman Begins" covers the full spectrum of the Batman/Bruce Wayne Mythos. From Bob Kane to Frank Miller. And does it magnificently!
The cast is surprisingly dead-on and Gotham has never looked so promising from above, yet so rotten and decrepit below.
Both films got it RIGHT!
Jack.
Director's Cut or Theatrical Release?
Saw 3 movies this year....Fantastic Four (waste of time), Hitchiker's Guide to The Galaxy (not bad, not great) and March of the Penguins. (It was pleasant.)
A poster to the IMDB board, says that 'Becket'
will mbe released on DVD, on the 29th of December,
2006..an year and two days from now...I can't say
i put much faith in this, but if true. and I am
still alive...:o)...My name will be on
*somebody's* Pre-Order List.
