I don't watch much TV either, but these shows are really good:
Mythbusters
Medical Incredible
Untold Stories of the ER
Monk
Iron Chef
Who Wants to be a Millionare
... and Dirty Jobs is fun, too. :)
"Monk" is (IMO) the best show on TV. And I was amazed to see a real Christmas Party in the SFPD.
