Explosive Device Thrown At Albanian Embassy In Belgrade
AP ^ | January 3, 2006

BELGRADE (AP)--Unknown assailants threw an explosive device at the Albanian embassy in Belgrade, causing minor damage, police said Tuesday.

The device was thrown Sunday evening, causing some damage to the facade of the embassy building. Police gave no other details.

The incident comes before crucial U.N.-brokered talks on Kosovo, Serbia's southern province which is populated mostly by ethnic Albanians.

Albania has supported the desire of the Kosovo Albanians to gain independence from Serbia but Belgrade wants to retain at least formal control over the province.

Kosovo has been a U.N. protectorate since 1999, when a NATO air war against Serbia halted former president Slobodan Milosevic's crackdown against the ethnic Albanian separatists.

Diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Tirana were cut at the time but were re-established after Milosevic was ousted in 2000 by a pro-Western coalition.

Giving the Albanians a little taste of their own medicine.

What good does it for the Serbs to have an Albanian embassy in Serbia anyways?

>>>Giving the Albanians a little taste of their own medicine.

Ah yes, let's bomb the civilian representative of the country that has as a majority the same nationality as that of a breakaway minority in our country. It makes perfect sense joan. /s

Albanians have bombed (and killed) civilian Serb government officials who went to Kosovo.

Albania is no good for Serbia and they support separatists and allowed their country to be used as training ground for the KLA and arms smuggling. I wish they would close their embassy AND LEAVE SERBS ALONE.

I've got $10 says it was thrown by a KLA thug thinking they could pull that Racak-hoax again.

I've got $10 that says it was Carla del Ponte, Paddy Ashdown, and William Walker; all in full ninja gear.

Bunch of people where celebrating as usual the "New Years Eve" with fireworks in Belgrade....

I guess, Albanians can't handle it, when people in Serbia are happy for one day...

Good News for GeraldP....they fixed the Albanian Embassy again...

>>>...and in your perfect world...this must be "legal" then...????

Are you asking me how I feel about the bus attack? No ambiguity about it, the idiots that attacked the bus in Maliseva are a combination of thugs/criminals and should be locked away for good, as should be anyone who attacks any Serb in Kosovo.

>>>I guess, Albanians can't handle it, when people in Serbia are happy for one day...

And I guess some Serbs still can't get past the denial mentality. I see not the slightest acknowledgement or hint of condemnation in your posts.

The saddest part is that this "why have an Albanian Embassy in Belgrade?" idiocy seems to be more common than I thought. Surely... I thought, surely most Serbs would realize the absurdity of attacking the Albanian ambassador's residence.

Which is why I maintain that no Serb did it.

Unless it was some criminal smuggling operation in competition with the smugglers operating out of the Albanian Embassy. Anything goes once you start down that road.

Personally I could care less if it was a Serb or not, Gerald wouldn't raise an eyebrow if the situation were reversed so he can take his grandstanding the DU site where someone might actually give a rats ass about what he thinks.

Not necessarilly only smugling op. Since 1997 Albanian secret service was active on numerous occasions to assasinate Kosovo Albanians, foes of KLA who were foolish enough to reside in Albania. They forgot that KLA was in fact Berisha's army.

The reason may well be found there. Here is more info

>>> Gerald wouldn't raise an eyebrow if the situation were reversed

And you know this how exactly? What makes you think you know how I would react to any particular event or situation? Mrs. Cleo... is that you?

I condemned the Maliseva bus attack, and I have on a number of occasions condemned antiSerb violence in Kosovo. Call it "grandstanding" if you will, the words are still there. In contrast, I have yet to see a single Serb on this thread that condemns this act of terrorism, you included. Come on, are you going to use your next post to say what needs to be said or are you going to retort with your usual petulance and hostility?

Just scroll up to Post#9 for example:

"No ambiguity about it, the idiots that attacked the bus in Maliseva are a combination of thugs/criminals and should be locked away for good, as should be anyone who attacks any Serb in Kosovo."

Now, what's it going to be?

shiptari, i condemn the attack on this Shiptari Embassy as it serves nothing but counterproductive relation with the Global Media outlets. Serbian soil, Serbian capital, who else but to blame but the Serb? Whoever did this deserves a thousand wet willies and two wedgies.
