I was wondering because I would have thought that.....

Well, they are Pros.

Oh, well. Put she-males in a sport and it's just not the same.

No it was after both them had lost their matches in the Australian Open some years back. They then issued a challenge to any male players...provided the men were ranked higher than the top two hundredth in the world. Some German pro who was sitting around the press tent relaxing and drinking took them up on it. I remember him saying he took it easy on them when he was serving, but still beat them both handily.

I remember many years ago when Chris Evert was married to John (?) Lloyd. One of the particularly irritating women commentators asked how her husband liked being married to a girl who could beat him in tennis.

Chrissy answered that she couldn't beat her husband, who was ranked something like #100. She then said if he really concentrated she usually didn't win a point off him.

The average male pro, in any sport, is probably ten percent better than the average female in any sport...at least correlated to athletic ability, something tennis certainly qualifies for. If someone is ten percent better than I am in tennis (a sport I love to play), that person will crush me, with little exertion, every time he or she plays me.

Even if a person is five percent better, he or she will beat their opponent on average like a drum. Even if a person is just one percent better, that person will beat their opponent more than fifty-one percent of the time. Because one percent superiority is exponential in terms of how many times they will beat their opponent.

In the case of one percent superiority, I would wager that the person who is one percent better would win sixty percent of the time against his or her opponent. But if it's ten percent or more superiority, then the match is a joke. Like a good grade school player taking on an NBA player in his prime one one one.

[Women's hockey] is also a completely different game.

Yes, it is.

Women's hockey rules prohibit checking,

Yes.

so the women's game is actually very similar to the game played by young kids in amateur leagues.

Yes & no. More like pond hockey where checking is also prohibited and in that the development of technical skills is the emphasis.

Well folks, don't forget Riggs was playing on the doubles court, while she was playing on the singles. He was only allowed one serve, and he still was could have beaten her if he wasn't 55 at the time!!! LOL...

The Russians had some women sharp shooters. I would say they could be good, but by no means equal. There is an exception to every rule.

The military is not allowing women fighter pilots to land on carriers after that one woman came in too hot and killed herself.

Personally I think not allowing women to fly is not a bad idea.

On a side note my buddy worked with, or heard a story of a woman that wanted to climb the telephone poles for a living. They told her that really no women have ever been one or something to that effect. So she begged and begged and the let her, the first practice run she fell into the wires, it lifted her out zapped her, and slammed her on the ground, lights out for her, she died. Moral of the story, don't let women climb telephone poles either!!!

you know, the HS team that beat up on the women's team would be crushed by a men's college team, and obliterated by a pro team......

differant levels....

women are differant than men.....they compete because of the same reasons men do.....its fun!!!.....

and, most professional sports women do it for the LOVE and FUN of sports, not for the money, because there is no money in women's sports, except the obvious , tennis and golf....but hockey, baseball, basketball, etc.....the women get diddley squat......

so who cares if a HS team can beat a women's team.....they shouldn't be playing agaisnt men, period....

they shouldn't be playing against men for the same reason the Little Leaguers don't play against the HS teams and the HS teams don't play against the college teams and the college teams don't play against the Pros......

I like to watch womens sports. In BB they use more teamwork and less one on one. They are also better sports and don't do as much showboating. It is not about competing with the male sex which is bigger and stronger.
The female basketball players today can handle the BB better than I could when I played.

Well women can do ok to if they can play with the men.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=1978193

Whatever brings people to the games as well. Seems like everybody loves watching women play with the men. Remember Anika Sorenstam? Didn't make the cut, but she tried.

Her comment was, "I know where I belong." When she got her butt kicked.

Michelle Wie is another one trying to mix it up with the men, and failing miserably. Pretty soon its not going to be such a draw if they keep losing so bad, and the pro's will get sick of it.

Danica Patrick has an unfair advantage because of her weight. She weighs like 95 lbs. So that is not fair. Yet she can't shift gears as fast as the men so she usually loses her pole position in the first quarter mile when she gets it.

If she weighed the same as Sara Fisher, she would be right where sara fisther has always been, last.

When she came in 4th it was a fluke. Half the field had crashed, and she was out of gas when they called the race. She was on her way to last place. They kept her out, when she needed to pit, and it payed off with a fourth place finish.

I hope she eats like a pig in the off season, and shows her true colors!!!!

"different levels"

I agree. And I've gotten just as excited about watching a particular girls or womens event as I have boys or mens. My point, and the point of many others on this thread, is that for dishonest and ulterior motives many people have been led to believe that women are just a stones throw from achieving sports/athletic parity with men. Some feminists have even argued that women just need a little more weight training. People like myself and others have argued that that is absurd. That does not make watching females in sports any less entertaining. For whatever reason.
