An Iranian military plane crashed in the northwest of the country on Monday, killing 13 people including the head of the Revolutionary Guards ground forces, Iranian news agencies reported.

The crash came barely a month after a decrepit Iranian military transport plane crashed into the foot of a high-rise housing block after suffering engine failure.

A total of 108 people were killed.

Purge by the president of Iran. Perhaps the General was plotting a coup.....Not everyone in Iran is a nut case.

That's what I was thinking. We don't know anything about this guy and the new president seems to be purging a lot of people. Does anyone know anything about this guy?

Your list is missing the July 3, 1988 Iran Airlines flight 655 attempt to ram the USS Vincennes with an Air Bus full of dead bodies.

Before being appointed commander of the IRGC Ground Forces, Brigadier General Ahmad Kazemi was the commander of the IRGC Air Force. In that position, Kazemi was responsible for the production and development of Shahab missiles.

“The [IRGC] Air Force under the command of General Kazemi underwent serious development, and today the Guards Corps has the potent missile force of the Middle East”, Safavi said.

Iran has successfully tested the Shahab-3, which has a maximum range of 2,000 kilometres and can hit all cities in the Middle East.

In late July, Iran announced that it had fully developed solid-fuel technology in producing missiles, a major breakthrough that increases the accuracy of missiles.

Kazemi was also responsible for research and production of the Shahab-4 missile with a projected range of 3,000 km. Analysts say that Tehran is working round-the-clock to enhance the range and accuracy of the Shahab missiles which is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and reaching the heart of Europe."

Seems unlikely the President of Iran would want this guy dead. But plenty of others have good reason.

According to a post at WoC, DEBKA (yes, I know . . .) Kazemi was an architect of the current super hard policies:

Now, I usually ignore DEBKA, but they are sometimes right, and maybe so in this case.

He wasn't martyred. He wasn't in the process of killing any one. No virgins for him. Tough luck Ahmad.

Most likely Abdul the plane mechanic hooked the blue wire to the red wire. He's been told before, blue to blue, red to red. No one's figured out yet that he's color blind.

The Revolutionary Guard is not part of the Iranian military and is set up to be a more loyal counterbalance to the Iranian Army. Sort of like the SS or the NKVD divisions in World War II. He was almost certainly a black hat.
That another black hat bumped him off is a possibility.
Most likely this crash is the result of bad plane maintenance.

Nice pictures. Is it just me or does it really look as if the wings were blown off by a big BOOM?
That's a mighty big hole in the fuselage.

All I understand is that the airplane ran out of fuel and managed to land somewhere out of the city but it failed

I'm certainly no expert in 'plane crashes, but from what I can see, it does look as if a crash-landing was attempted. Looks like the wings were ripped off?

Funny thing is, I have seen worse wreckage in which there were survivors, the cockpit looks to be intact...wonder what happened to the pilot?
