Day 3: Questioning Continues
This morning, Round 1 concludes with Senators on the Judiciary Cmte. who did not question nominee Alito yesterday. During Round 2, questioning is limited to 20 minutes for each of the eight- een senators. Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads off, followed by the others, alternating by party in order of seniority.

There has to be a bar in DC called The Gym. They can't mean a place where people are exercising.
Well..maybe there's some kind of bar at the gym. Thats why Kennedy frequents the gym.

I'm not buying that gym story either. I actually stopped reading and stared at the TV in disbelief when Spector said they went at the same time.
The swimmers hands look like flippers on my TV.....white, smooth limp flippers!
Yet another reason why *I* avoid going to the gym, who wants results like that??

NY Times article by David Kirkpatrick says Alito was not a major donor. Not an officer. Two big players don't remember Alito being involved.

November 26 -- NYT published a story about this. My chief of staff talked with the person who went through all the records in the public domain.
No indication Judge Alito was among the gruop's major donors, not an active leader and Mr. Rusher said they didn't remember Alito playing a role.
The obvious thing to do is call Mr. Rusher which we did and he said we could look at his records. He said he got a request from an unnamed requester and he declined, but if he had gotten a request from Sen. Kennedy, he'd have given permission.
So the records are en route from the Library of Congress so we can look at the them.
I'm surprised Kennedy didn't talk to Leahy or me before he made a request for access and subpoena. I'm puzzled. But the substance of the request is being attended to.
I share Kennedy's concern that we have all the facts.

By answering the questions calmly and well. Alito is fiendish.
Specter now talking about Teddy's letter. Says K's letter never logged in--and just saw computer printout of it an hour ago. Decided letter is not meritorious--hurray! Says he honestly did not know about the letter--talks with Kennedy and Leahy a lot--now talking about 11/26 NY Times article--says no indication that judge Alito was an active member of CAP--guess maybe they will now review the records--sounds like Specter might put them into record--but doesn't seem to feel they are very important.
