I'd put "Black Napkins" or "Watermelon in Easter Hay" in that list by FZ.
Vai does do a lot of "emoting" when he plays(unless you're referring to something else,I'm not a guitar player),but I listen with my eyes shut. If you had a stricter definition,please explain if you feel like it,I'm always interested in understanding guitar technique.

My thoughts, exactly. "Texas Flood" about sums it up, or his take on "Little Wing"
And I might throw in some Jeff Beck for good measure. Something recent, like "Brush with the Blues"
But glad to see Pagey still topping the charts, although I would've chosen "Tea for One" or "The Rover" if I wanted to hear him stretch it out.
25 or 6 to 4? "Lots of slop"? Dude... listen again. We are talking about the studio, version, right? Tight, chilling building of a crescendo from start to finish.

My fave is Hotel California, I love it when Felder and Walsh rip into the solos. I was so disappointed in their Hell Freezes Over tour when they played it acoustic. They got it right their last tour, truly epic. Also, a little known dueling solos song is East/West by the Butterfield Blues Band, Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop trading licks, a 13 minute marathon. Also, Robbie Robertson does some nice guitar work on Dylan's Blonde on Blonde album, particularly on Brand New Leopardskin Pillbox Hat.
"The Core" from Slowhand is a real good song, with great guitar work by EC.
Ah. those were the days. My problem is, once a taste for YES was acquired, nothing else was listenable to me.. I played keyboards in a couple of bands, started playing when I was 5, and can't tell you how difficult life was when the likes of Wakeman was the standard below which I couldn't go. What a group.
