Stairway to Heaven is not a guitar solo.

David Gilmour has hit many out of the park, as well.

The jams on "Time", "Dogs" and "One of These Days" are vintage Gilmour. Check out some of his solo stuff as well. And now one of my own-Jerry Garcia's, "Estimated Prophet" jam from 12-26-79 in Oakland, CA. The Dead were all about live recording, and the abovementioned is one of the best..

A nutty friend of mine down in L.A. plays his vintage gear all the time -- guitars all worth over $10,000 each. They're his primary investments nowadays after pulling out of the stock market, and the guy gigs with them.

But he's an exception, of course.

The reason he didn't play his old Gibsons is because he's been a confirmed Fender man for about 35 years now.

Clapton played a 335 during his "From the Cradle" days. I wish he would have pulled out the SG for the Cream reunion, but I think he gave it away...

Steve Howe (totally self-taught guitarist) is a genius.

No argument can be formulated that would successfully refute that statement. His guitar playing touches my soul like no other.

My favorite of his works is the epic "Ritual: Nous Sommes du Soleil" on the "Tales from Topographic Oceans" album.
The first time I heard it i cried. Really. It is that beautiful.

The few bars before these lyrics near the end are a wonder:

"Hold me my love, hold me today, call me round
Travel we say, wander we choose, love tune
Lay upon me, hold me around lasting hours
We love when we play..."

Guitarist Jimmy Page of the band Led Zeppelin has been voted the top guitar soloist of all time for the song Stairway to heaven.

We've all heard better guitar solos.

A better singing voice isn't hard find at all.

If you spend any time at all looking for meaning in the lyrics you'll give up shaking your head.

I agree on the first two points but number 3 is a no brainer. The meaning of the lyrics is very clear. Play the thing backwards. You will hear some crazy shit. No lie.

Oh man, this list is awful. Some suggestions...

Now Your Ships Are Burned (2nd solo), Yngwie Malmsteen
Riviera Paradise, SRV
Another Brick In The Wall PtIII, Pink Floyd
Goodbye to Romance, Ozzy (Rhodes)
Just What I Needed, The Cars (very underrated)

Cant think of anymore right offhand...JFK

Man i agree that clapton was definitely overrated. but u shut up about page. the small flaws that he made just made him better, just made him more distinguishable from anyone else. any stevie ray vaughn or angus young or clapton can take a simple blues scale and turn it into a solo. but jimmy page did stuff different from all those guys, that’s why he’s number one.
