Canadian General Election, Live Thread (UPDATE: Conservatives Win!)
Elections Canada ^ | N/A

Posted on 01/23/2006 8:03:44 AM PST by GreenLanternCorps

If JimRob, etc. approve this is the Live Thread for the Canadian General Election, on January 23rd, 2005.

We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.

Oddly enough, my employer has freedominion.com blocked as an "advocacy group". Yet freerepublic.com is not at all restricted. I wonder if one of the owners, executives, or computer guys is a freeper.

Hopefully, when we wake up to a Conservative Gov't tomorrow morning, you'll discard your dopey & treasonous tagline, eh?

What's it to you?

So if Harper wins, will the idiots that came up with the "Jesusland" map be forced to change it?

Yes, I'm in Fredericton. St Andrews is a beautiful part of NB and I believe that's an area of the province that trditionally goes Conservative.

you could change it to Ashamed anti-Canadian...a truism

or Cowardly Canadian wanting sympathy from Americans that hate Canadians no matter what...which is also a truth.

If you want to watch election coverage, CBC is supposedly streaming their feed online. Or, for people like me, who live less than 100 miles from the Canadian border you can tune into CBC.

I don't know why everyone says that Canadian elections are boring, I think they're very exciting.

Go Conservatives! Lets hope for a large minority or small majority government!

People on freedominion.ca have been saying that turnout is pretty high in Ontario. If turnout is high in the 905 area-code, things will most likely go very well for the Tories. Also, keep an eye on the early returns from New Brunswick. There are a few close races there, ones that could really predict the success of the Tories tonight.

Be careful with the red/blue labels for Canadian ridings. THey aren't the same as in the U.S. The Liberal party is traditionally red and the Conservatives are Blue with the NDP being orange. The greens are, well, green, and I don't know the color for the BQ.

Thanks - will be watching closely.

Saw Fox news running that extremely embarassing Liberal ad that says "Stephen Harper will be Bush's new best friend. At least someone will be happy, eh?"

All I could think of was, yeah, me and a few million other Canadians. (I am so embarassed we're coming off like a bunch of idiot yahoos though...)

"My prediction: Conservative 134, Liberal 82, Bloc Quebecois 62, NDP 28, Independent 2"

I think everyone will get a surprise and Conservatives will win 140 seats.

I'd love to see Stephen Harper as PM stand next to President Bush. That photo would make my day... I've been ashamed of my government for 12 solid years. Finally there could be political alignment between the two neighbours.

I just went and voted on this windy day. It won't make much difference in this very Conservative riding but I'm proud to contribute to what I hope and pray is a Conservative Party victory.
