Terrific ship, and PAAMS is a good system.

I wish - however - that we had fitted it with multiple purpose launch tubes, not these admittedly superb but single role missiles.

Historical note: Exocet was defeated during the Falklands war by going bow-on to the threat, as the crew of HMS Gloucester can testify.

I think that Britain & France are working on a multi-role variant of the Sylver VLS system, which would be similar in capability to the "Strategic" variant of the MK-41 & can deploy SAMs,land attack & ASW missiles. This would then be capable of launching the Tomahawk or the Scalp Navale cruise missiles. But that can honestly come at a later date. The problem is that Brits have done too much cost cutting with these ships. They have no anti-ship missiles nor torpedoes as of now & have to depend on heliborne torpedoes for ASW despite having excellent sonars. Moreover while the Aster series is highly capable, too few are carried when compared to American DDGs.
