"The rich benefitted most by a long shot."
I'm sure you also feel that the oil/gas companies are crooks, especially with their huge profits.
The CEO and the board don't own Exxon - the shareholders do. Exxon has to compete for the dollars of their shareholders. They (Exxon) need the capital for additional exploring, expanding, refitting, improving refineries and other things.
If you do the elementary math, you quickly find that the shareholders are not getting such a great return, looking at the internals of the revenue and profit. That puts the shareholder dollars at risk since most successful companies have considerably higher returns.
Of course if you have an irrational and politically-tainted hatred of big business, then by all means, go ahead and hate big oil.
By the same token, those who earn higher incomes pay vastly higher percentages of their income in taxes. Those who make minimal contributions to the well-being of the country pay lower amounts if any. But if you want to play the "amounts" and "percentages" game, be my guest.
Communists refuse to believe that there could possibly be more than one "pie" ( or loaf of bread). That's what makes it essential to decide who gets it.
Their mistaken belief is self-fulfilling because they never allow the person who baked the pie to keep it. Therefore, the person who baked it has no incentive whatever to bake another.
FOUND HER!
I'm glad to hear I'm wrong.
But there's very significant opposition to all forms of contraception you mention. Where's it coming from? Why is the Administration emphasizing chastity and opposing birth control all over the world?
I know. Interesting how close to communism American Liberalism truly is, isn't it?
Of course. At any given time the country generates a certain amount of income and has a certain amount of wealth. That can grow or shrink. And as it does each quintile (or decile or hundreth) can see its share (as a percentage or in absolute terms) grow or shrink separately of what's happening to the whole.
Put simply I can get richer as you get poorer or the opposite or we can both get richer or poorer together.
Ann Coulter? Forget C-Span, you could sell that for $49.99 a pop on PPV.
I have it somewhere but you'll find it's possible to argue that the second 5% are merely well-off.
I've screwed things up by arguing on two threads at once and trying to bid on e-bay at the same time. The statistic I thought I was dealing with came from another thread...and it related to tax cuts and job creation.
Oh no.
I was exagerating to try to make a point. I hope to reach those mainstream thinkers since it's almost impossible to reach the others.
DU is far too vulgar and stupid for me. Ditto Daily Kos. But I do spend time at Talking Points Memo.
Nope...and fighting straw-men is bad for your mental health.
those who earn higher incomes pay vastly higher percentages of their income in taxes.
No they don't...but they do pay vastly greater amounts if they earn vastly greater amounts.
To anyone and everyone wanting a DU account (make sure to disguise yourself really well; they're nuts!)...

I want them to be so unhappy that they decide that their lives are not worth living.
Oh, stop. I didn't say I got in trouble and found myself in need of money.
What I meant was that I have been raped by the government every payday since I started working 30 years ago. I needed relief. Bush's tax cut provided it.
He allowed me to KEEP MORE OF MY OWN MONEY. Got that? MY money. My money that I earn by working hard is not yours, it is not the government's, it does not belong to the collective, it does not belong to the village. It belongs to me.
I was checking replies to a reply by liberallarry, and wondering if there was a reply by liberllarry to a reply to him. Of course it's a single click to find that out, but even on broadband the time delay is noticable.
That's not objectionable when there is in fact a reply to read, but annoying when your wait is rewarded only by a screen which says "no replies." And it occurred to me that you colorcode the "pings" button in the top of the header so that I can see that I do not have a new ping, or new mail, without troubling to click on the button.
If the "view replies" button under a reply were colorcoded red if in fact there is a reply to be seen by clicking the button, I would never again need to wait for a reply view only to find that no such reply exists. Not a huge deal, of course, but it would be an improvement. Or maybe just colorcode that button gray when there is not a reply available, and don't respond at all to a click on that button. That would eliminate even the possibility of running on that fool's errand.

I've been wanting to make up an account and post there, too, but I always thought, like you, that if I even came across with an ounce of common sense that they would just ban me.
I mean you literally have to post stuff like "Nixon had Kennedy killed in revenge for losing in 1960, and to de-stabilize the country to set himself up for a win in 1968" or at least things nearly that crazy. They really are loony over there. I do catch myself agreeing with them occasionally, when they get pissed about REAL government fascism, but those occasions are rare.
This is the key to your understanding of the situation. Let's say you research a technology solution, you spend countless weekends and evenings working to build an innovative product, and then you patent the technology and begin to sell it on the open marketplace. You make millions of dollars within the first three years. Should your wealth be "redistributed"? Are you suddenly a filthy rich monster who should be punished with extreme taxation? Liberals are ANTI-AMERICAN dream, and until you change your perspective about how financial earnings are generated in the U.S. you will live in perpetual frustration and ignorance. Conservative fiscal discipline and taxation policies are the fair and right method of extracting contributions from the population to fund government. As soon as you start talking about wealth distribution, then you begin sounding like Hugo Chavez.
The "liberal nightmare" has just begun.
We will systematically undo all the damage these Communists (call them what they are) have done to our country. We routed international Communism; now we will use the same weapons, courage and determination, to rout domestic Communism.
And when we do, America will be free once again.
Doubtful. Very doubtful. Unless they can force the Republican party to split into 2 parties.
