I cut out a cartoon from the newspaper. How do I post it on FR? It probably is mentioned here somewhere. My computer knowledge is greatly limited - so it would have to be simple. I just saw this question, and that it was still unanswered. So, if you're still needing to know how to get a newspaper clipping on to FR, here you go:
- Digitize the cartoon, either by using a scanner or by taking a picture of it with a digital camera. Either way, you should end up with (preferably) a .JPG image of the cartoon.
- Use a digital photo editing program, one is usually included on the CD that came with the scanner or camera, to resize the (probably) large .JPG file to a more reasonable size. (I'd say the largest dimension should be less than 1000, at the most, maybe half that)
- Upload that .JPG file to an Internet location. If your Internet provider has included some FTP space as part of your package, there should be some instructions available from them as to how you upload a file to your FTP area. Otherwise, you can upload the .JPG file to a free image hosting service, such as Tinypic or ImageShack.
- After uploading the image, you'll need to determine the URL that links to it. The free hosting sites should display the URL right after you upload the file. Copy that URL (i.e. http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/7792/agdnc04zv5.jpg) and paste it into Notepad, or some place where you can save it.
- To post the image onto Free Republic, use the HTML tag "IMG" like so: <IMG SRC="MyURL">.
The URL I used above is an image of Al Gore that's on ImageShack, so we'll use it:
<IMG SRC="http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/7792/agdnc04zv5.jpg"> will give us this:
