There is a mechanism for public officials to apply for legal fees if they are brought to trial. The Clintons of all people applied for them despite using the most expensive lawyer in D.C. and drawing out the cases through stonewalling and obstruction.

Didn't the Clinton's end up getting only a very small fraction of what they asked for for that very reason? I remember a ruling something like they would get 10% of what they wanted because the lawyers fees were hardly "normal and customary" and that much of the expense was caused by their own delaying tactics. I believe it was no big deal because the (unregulated) Clinton Defense Fund had taken in lots more than was needed. They were just trying to get more paid for by the tax payers out of spite (and so they could keep more of the bribes donations for themselves).
