Last year researchers from New Zealand reported that regular cannabis smokers had almost double the normal risk of schizophrenia.
Feel free to disagree, of course. But the claim is that cannabis use may increase risk of acquiring mental illness.
But I think the attack on Voice is really about crime in the UK and not so much about drugs at all.
Nutty people are just more likely to use drugs. This article is trying to make you believe the converse of this.
Cause-and-effect is missing, however.
Schizophrenics have a high tendancy to be alcoholics and abuse other drugs, not just pot.
It's an attempt at self-medication to calm the demons in their minds.
Perhaps it's not cannabis that's causing the rise in mental illness. Maybe, just maybe, it's lurking in our food and water supplies. (Asbestos ready)
That's one way to look at it. Another view would be that Schizophrenics are twice as likely to smoke pot.
No, they didn't. I invite you to read up on the methodology of this "study." What they found was NOT that many pot smoker became psychotic, but that many pot smokers reported symptoms similar to those of schizophrenics. For example, if a pot smoker answered "Yes" to the question "Have you ever felt paranoid?", then that was counted as a pot smoker exhibiting a psychotic symptom. Which is, of course, BS of the highest order.
