Denmark may cancel soccer match with Israel
Danish fears over potential attempts to hurt its soccer players in wake of publication of Muhammad cartoons may prompt cancellation of match scheduled for March Tomer Ganor
Muslim fury may lead to cancellation of soccer match: The Danish soccer association is considering canceling a friendly match between Israel and Denmark scheduled to take place at the start of March in Israel, according to Danish newspaper BT.
The game was supposed to be Israel's first match under new manager Dror Kashtan.
The reason for the possible cancellation is the hostility to Denmark over cartoons disparaging Islam's prophet Muhammad published in a Danish newspaper.
Denmark is worried that Islamic elements in Israel could try and harm members of the Danish soccer delegation.
According to the report, the Danes will wait until February 21 before making a final decision on the issue, while consultations are held with police intelligence, players, and the Danish foreign ministry.
Denmark hosted Israel for a friendly in 2002, at the height of the al-Aqsa intifada after Operation Defensive Shield.
Israel was then headed by Danish manager Richard Neilsen, who resigned after Israel lost 3:1.
During the game, Danish protesters invaded the soccer pitch waving anti-Israeli banners.
When asked about the report, Israel's soccer association spokesman Shaul Eisenberg said he would not "respond to rumors."
"We're talking about a soccer game. Not international geopolitics."
What??? Have you heard of the Soviet boycott of the LA Olympics and the US boycott of the Moscow Olympics? Do you think these boycotts were over the condition of the stadia in both countries?
Next time, please do some research before you post stuff like this.
It's hypocrisy and cowardice both.
Why would Israel be any more dangerous for them then NYC which is also a target for Islamics?
It's because they have a predisposition to see Israel as a particularly dangerous place where Islamics are concerned.
But they have shown no sympathy or support to Israeli men, women and children living with this Islamic savagery on a daily basis for decades.
You know you have lost the argument when you start ignoring people's replies to the inaccurate stuff that you JUST posted.
Ooooo pick me, pick me....I can name some after going to the Danish bloggers site where they have mohammed advertising everything from feta cheese to condoms and canned ham. LOL!
Totally untrue. Ask any player who has represented England, for example.
Doesn't matter.....have you had a chance to look into my history of Danish products as yet? Or are you still trying to figure out how to use the posting history feature (given that it is your first day here and all that).
In any case, I appreciate your acknowledgement that you lost the argument. Don't worry...it happens to most of us here...not just on our first day though.
Welcome to FR. I hope you enjoy your stay.
It was not a very long stay...looks like "Murrow" has been zotted....he lies in peace in the FR trash bin right now.
"Oh, Murrow. You won't see him no more."
The Danes are good socialists, they don't realize that their team would be safer in the care of heavily armed Israelis than at home with their gun neutered brethren....
At some level it still feels like i'm dreaming. This has to be an odd dream, right? Surely all this disruption couldn't come about over a cartoon, right? Nobody would be stupid enough to riot, burn down embassies, or recall ambassadors over a cartoon, right? This really does seem like a south park episode.
Great, muslim radicals behaving like brittish hooligans.
GOD help us.

You know, there are two ways of dealing with this: Smack the Islamists down hard now, or wait for somebody like Le Pen to be elected in France, Russia or India and watch the nukes fly.
