Store Ordered To Repaint Window Frame

NASHVILLE, Ind. -- Officials in the rustic southern Indiana tourist town of Nashville are ordering a store owner to repaint a bright blue window frame.

Nashville's nine-member Development Review Commission has told the owners of J Bob's that they have until Aug. 1 to repaint the window frame to a more appropriate color.

The owner's daughter said her 79-year-old father repainted the window before leaving for a winter vacation in Florida. She said her mother got a call complaining about the color and thought the whole thing was silly.

The president of the Development Review Commission said they are coming up with a palate of acceptable colors for the town.

J Bob's sells merchandise including hot sauce and troll dolls to tourists who arrive each fall to look at the changing leaves.

Actually, Welcome to Cary, North Carolina.

I lived there for 10 years, and they were very stringent as to color coordiation of all building within a shopping area.

Even the standalone buildings, typically franchised (Taco Bell, McDonald's, Jiffy Lube), have to follow the same color scheme; even when the franchise has it's own color scheme.

I would also not mask the glass and let them run together and overlap about 1" around the frame too, then if they complain just hand them a razor blade with a smile.

Nashville IN is entirely too important to be left to the whims of a guy who runs off to Florida for the winter.

Makes him an "outside agitator", not a "shop owner", during that period.

Well, here's a photo of the NEWLY REFURBISHED movie theater in Nashville, IL. Pretty funny. Maybe they want the whole town to look this run-down. Keep the riff-raff out:

No problem.

You did remember to fill out the appropriate forms in quadruplicate; fax one of the forms to central administration, send one via interdepartmental mail to requisitions, post one (set within in a wood or metal frame- plastic is no longer acceptable- no larger than 10"x14" in an area that experiences foot traffic of no less than 80 pedestrians, between the hours of 8:00AM to 12:30PM and 1:30PM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday, and 9:00AM to 3:00PM Saturday and Sunday; seal one within a self address stamped thrice-recycled envelope and post marked at least 30 days prior to actually changing the color of your font?

Plenty of Republican city councils do this too. It's like the "personal freedom" switch is turned to "off" whenever you're in a city planning meeting.

"I have been to Nashville and was not impressed."

You will get no argument from me on that one. Just another tourist trap.

It's not a fake, hokey, rural look. When my Great Grandfather (and on back for several generations of "greats") and our relatives were over there in the hills weaving baskets all winter long, they really looked forward to being able to take them to Nashville to an appropriate looking place to sell them to the tourists coming in from Indianapolis and Chicago.

Their livelihood depended on the place looking the way it looked ~ not like an IHOP!

Today Nashville is in the throes of a revival of it's "art colony" traditions. One individual must not be allowed to destroy this.

Leaving his winter blues behind.

Because if you didn't, you have to file the appropriate forms (sending a copy to all parties involved) to correct the 'premature font coloring event', signed by a cognizant officer and notarized by a duly designated representative of the council; attaching a detailed explanation for the error, and re-submit the original four forms, adding a 10 page single space justification as to why the specified color was chosen, after you have put your coat on the lower peg.

Hey, at least he painted it. Better that than letting it peal like a lot of people do.

Good morning.

The "Historical Review Board" in the town of Mendocino has only three members, but they decide who does what and in what color in the town.

I'm not certain of this, but I believe they are not elected.
