Detailed description
U.S. Bank Tower (formerly known as Library Tower) was developed in 1989 as part of the $1.0 billion Los Angeles Central Library Redevelopment Plan, which provided the bulk of the funds for the restoration and expansion of the Los Angeles Central Library into an institution of international stature, as well as the creation of the Maguire Gardens.

Designed by I.M. Pei & Partners, U.S. Bank Tower is neither round nor square, offering an interlocking set of granite planes and curves that step down in a series of terraces and ledges to colonnades of glass at the base. The lobby houses "Unity", a giant mixed media mural by Russian born artists Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid, that depicts the history of the City of the Angels.

Café Pinot and McCormick & Schmick's, two of downtown's most popular restaurants, serve U.S. Bank Tower tenants from locations within Maguire Gardens and adjacent to the Bunker Hill steps. The Maguire Gardens serve as a graceful urban park adjacent to the historic Los Angeles Central Library. Landscape architect Lawrence Halprin created the new 1 1/2 acre park, which features major fountains that incorporate the work of California artists. The Bunker Hill Steps offer 50 feet of curving stage set for pedestrians, shoppers and people watchers. At the top of the Steps, the award winning sculpture "The Source Figure" surveys the scene.
