""hey judge, I know the undercover cop busted me for selling him a bag of dope, but it wasn't dope . . . it was oregano.""

What part of "He was not selling it" don't you understand?

Easy. If there is no one in athority at the shcool who has been trained to know the difference between sugar and cocaine then you have a police officer stop by and check it out. The police do not need to arrest someone everytime they perform a comunity service. Our entire culture is being removed from common sense by those who are going to be the finger pointers in our brave new world.

"We are truly in trouble if our teachers and school administrators are too stupid to tell the difference between cocaine and sugar."

Yes? So tell me, how do YOU tell the difference? What experience do you have with cocaine? Why would you think teachers and adminstrators would have sufficient experience to be able to tell one powery white substance from antoher?

Use your head for something besides a hatrack, okay?

"I have a fiance living in the philippines right now and I am very seriously thinking of moving there after i marry her and becoming a philippino citizen."

Probably someone you meant through correspondence? They are coming after you too. I just read an article the other day that says they are or have passed a law requiring you to give all of your personal information to the girl you are corresponding with. The reason why is because this one guy in all the world killed a couple of mail order brides. Therefore we have to have American laws to protect them from evil American's.

We also have to have laws making it a federal offense to make a joke about sugar. This country is just going off the deep end. I agree with your comments about the nature of this forum. It was founded for the purpose of protecting our freedoms and our way of life from politicians. But we might better rename it "BigBrother.com" for the benefit of those who like the direction this country is going in.

"Should taxpayers fund these?"

No- I think they should deduct the cost of these from your social security check.

Another one of many poor reasons why this is happening. Thanks.

Geez old student, a rather uncalled for rude response to a fellow freeper who is actually expressing the obvious idiocy of the schools admins. Why the overboard asinine attitude?

LOL! Do you live in Oregon? I only had to show my driver's license and sign an acknowledgment to get my Sudafed a couple weeks ago - all while the pharmacist grumbled how insanely stupid this whole process was.

I live in NM, but this insanity is everywhere.

Wonder why you can't buy "strike anywhere" matches anymore? Same reason.

The reasons the pharmacists are mad is that this crap adds to their work load and makes them even more of a target than they already are.

One of these days, someone with a crushing headache who has already had a bad day will go postal on a pharmacist asking for ID. The pharmacists can see it coming.

"Bovine scat."

huh?

i don't think police in illinois or anywhere else are bothering to go out and arrest people for "look-alike drugs". the fact that a bad law is on the books does not mean that the police make a priority out of enforcing it.
the problem here is the law, the school policy, and the way that the school admin handled the incident, not the behavior of the police.
i realize that my sarcastic post might not be clear, but i didn't think anyone would misinterpret it as a criticism of the police, who probably have their hands full arresting REAL drug sellers.
on the other hand, a couple of people on this thread have been defending the school policy, the behavior of the admin, and the vaguely worded law.
as quoted, the school policy and the law do not define a "look-alike drug". someone on the thread says it depends on what the person says about the substance. but if i call your sugar "cocaine", does that mean that YOU are committing a felony?

"Then perhaps the child should not lie about what is in the bag? He has some responsibility here.."

Some folks are just plain ignorant regarding childhood behaviors. The sad part is that many of them are still willing to post their ignorant tripe regarding adolescent behaviors. Then they'll give you the ole "why I've raised 12 kids and 25 grandkids" BS.

Facts are, their ignorant rants regarding how children should never lie under any circumstance proves beyond a shadow of doubt they have zero experience with children.

"The time to figure out how you're going to get the tools is before you make the rules, not after someone violates them."

They did that. They had the cops test the substance.

But that's not good enough for you. You wanted it tested before the cops got involved. So I'm asking -- who's going to test and how?

Got an answer?

Think about it for a minute: How is a school teacher or administrator supposed to know how to tell the difference between cocaine and powdered sugar? I'm speaking as a teacher, btw. IMHO, it was his opinion that was overboard and asinine. I'll ask you the same thing, since you seem to think all teachers and administrators should know the difference, how the heck do YOU know which is which? Obvious idiocy, indeed!

We're supposed to be experts on everything in the whold freaking world. Why don't you all become teachers, since you know so very much about everything? Heck, all I know is a little geography, and some history, and government, and maybe a little about being a photographer, and aircraft mechanic, and a few other odd little things I've done over the past 50 years. So far as I know, I've never seen real cocaine. I don't know too many teachers who have.

You expect us to be experts in law enforcement, too? Maybe after I finish my master's in special ed, I'll get something in criminal justice. Oh, wait, I need to get some more geography and history, and math, first... I guess it will have to wait a bit longer.

You said it. The base stupidity level of the staunchest drug warriors is amazing. One would have to be a truly sick authoritarian *pervert* to want to seek felony charges against a little kid over powdered sugar.

The War on Drugs has now extended to felony counts against 12 year olds overheard by a janitor making a snappy comeback to a smart remark from other 12 year old boys about a bag of powdered sugar.

It's unconstitutional, un-freedom loving, and un-American. Just flat sick-minded and disgusting.

Think about it for a minute: Now that they KNOW it's just powdered sugar, why are they charging this little boy with a FELONY?

Obvious idiocy, indeed!
