From what I understand, a lot of the police leadership in Canada is in favour of the gun registry. They were probably hired by Liberal administrators and are probably the ones misusing the funds. THey don't want their ice cream money taken away.

The bureaucrats are in favor. More rubbish for them to comb through.

I'd add that both a lazy, "unionized", "civil service mentality" attitude & unprincipled, kiss-ass, opportunistic political correctness - especially among those who reach the higher levels - are hardly uncommom among police up here.

As an example, shortly after the Conservatives were elected in Ontario in 1995 I ran into their then Transportation Minister Al Paladini at a Tory social function.

Since Paladini was - outside his elected role - likely the most well-known car dealer in the Province, I asked him how much longer Ontario would remain one of the only 3 or 4 jurisdictions in North America mandating front license plates on all vehicles?

He responded that, while he agreed they looked awful on the many, particularly high-end, cars not designed for them, with most police officers both usually voting Conservative & not wanting to be required to walk around to the back of cars to check plate numbers ...

True story.
