If the nation's top magazine have the pulse of the country -- get ready for another exhaustive week of exhaustive Cheney shooting coverage.
This just in! Both TIME and NEWSWEEK are planning covers of Cheney for high impact on newsstands Monday, with each magazine rolling out top staff bylines and thousands of words on the hunting incident: TIME: With deep reporting by John Cloud, Mike Allen and Matthew Cooper/ Washington, Cathy Booth Thomas and Patricia Kilday Hart/ Austin, and Hilary Hylton. NEWSWEEK urgently brings in its big investigative guns: Evan Thomas, Michael Isikoff, Daniel Klaidman, Richard Wolffe, Holly Bailey, Mark Hosenball and Eleanor Clift in Washington and Carol Rust in Texas.
NEWSWEEK's Jonathan Alter essays that media budget cuts and shifting news priorities have contributed to the public being in the dark about Cheney's ways and means.
The magazine's editor Mark Whitaker defends his decision to push for another week of Cheney-Shooting coverage: "The reason we ultimately decided to stick with a cover is not because of the hunting incident itself-although we did turn up some new details that you might not have read elsewhere-but because of what it says about the mysterious world of the most powerful vice president of recent times."
...Or what it says about the timing and state of print publications in the slick click age of information and news cycles.
An unfair slap at 8 track tapes! I once owned an audio/video store and we inherited a bunch of 8 tracks we couldn't sell. We put them in a bargain bin and flogged them at two for a dollar as hand held windshield scrapers and got rid of most of them.
Of course we lived in a place that gets substantial winter...
I think a lot of them sold because people got a kick out of the marketing...
Cheers
Jim
So many questions, so little time before this story fizzles and dies. LOL!!!! The poor "media" types. No lives. No lives at all.
Flogging a Dead Horse ...
... if a skeleton of a dying antique media flogs away at a dead horse nobody cares about, does anyone really care that the alphabet media is dying ??
"Chris Wallace just said on the FNC this morning that the Cheney shooting story was the consequence of nothing else major to report about."
Chris Wallace is a moron.
Gregory is the whining pansy. Alter is the most biased and transparently sneaky [as contradictory as that is]. Gregory is too stupid to be biased, he is just a spoiled teenaged girl growing up in a male body.
That must be the opposite of "Truthiness"
Jack.
The more they do this, the more non-political hunters (and others, I am sure) are looking up and saying, WTF? and realizing that all is not right....
With their numbers, will anyone real people (as opposed to blue state self-called-elites) notice?
...Or what it says about the timing and state of print publications in the Click Age of news cycles
What a great name for the new-age of reporting - the "Click Age"!
The MSM, or better, "Antique Media" is still operating as they did 25 years ago, before the arrival of the Alternative Media. Cover stories on a news item that has already run its course is a perfect example. They just can't understand why things don't work as well as they used to. Years ago, this would have propped-up the story and kept it going. This may keep it going, all right, but not in the way they wish. Now they've become the story and they just look foolish, biased, and partisan.
This week alone, Bernie Goldberg has gotten another chapter for his next book. They continue to make his job easier and easier.
But there's also a deeper meaning to this media feeding frenzy we're seeing. The MSM is putting the Republicans on notice that they are going to blow up every misstatement and misstep of anyone even remotely associated with the Republicans. With the election looming later this year, and control of both houses of Congress at stake, they are going to do everything they can to influence the election. They are now completely "out-of-the-closet" in their support of the Democrats and their hatred for Republicans. As the Democrats willing accomplices, they will do any "leg-work" needed to help the Democrats, no matter how dirty.
The operative themes for the rest of the year are now:
1. Always put any Republican in the worst possible light; blow up everything, no matter how small or insignificant, into a major scandal. Never drop any issue that might hurt the Republicans in the election.
2. Minimize or completely ignore anything that could possibly hurt the Democrats in the election (e.g., Gore's remarks in Saudi Arabia).
The MSM has put the Republicans on notice with their coverage of the Cheney incident. Let's hope someone on the inside sees this and is developing an appropriate counter strategy.
ANYTHING to ger Able Danger away from public scrutiny!
Incredible. A hunting accident consuming two weeks worth of news. The press is giving the next election to Republicans.
I don't agree that there was nothing else of importance for the press to yammer on about. Surely Gore deserved a great deal of heat for his rotten remarks before a Saudi audience.
Jeb Bush for VP?
Stories they are willing to cover and no news to report are two separate things. They only report what fits their agenda, then they scream and repeat the story like braying hyenas.
ROFL
I'm so glad the MSM has decided to follow the path of the Democrat Party and go entirely nuts.
Another week of a national tantrum from the press core is another week they don't leak national security secrets. All Good.
Keep it up pressers. :-)
