I guess no one remembers when this was discussed and posted right here at Freerepublic?!

China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO).

Problems with COSCO first came to public attention when the shipping company was implicated in the 1996 (when finger CLINTON finger was in office) seizure of 2,000 Chinese-made AK-47 machine guns bound for street gangs in Los Angeles.

It wasn't the first time. COSCO ships have long served as a vehicle for the transportation of strategic material to allies of communist China in support of programs such as the development of ballistic missiles, nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. British authorities recently discovered 10 tons of Ammonium Perclorate, a key component of ballistic missile fuel, on its way from Xian, China to Karachi, Pakistan on a COSCO ship. Other COSCO shipments include heavy artillery and ammunition from North Korea to Syria, as well as weapons and spare parts from North Korea and China to both Iran and Iraq.

[When COSCO tried to take over the U.S. Naval Station at Long Beach, Congress had to step in to stop Clinton from providing special treatment for his buddie$ and allow it to go through.]

On May 21, 1998, the House of Representatives passed the national defense bill which contained an amendment (authored by REPUBLICAN Congressman Duncan Hunter) to strictly prohibit President Clinton from issuing a national security waiver to allow COSCO to gain its own terminal at Long Beach.

Several weeks earlier, the House National Security Committee voted to pass the ban by an overwhelming 45-4. A number of the members of Congress who voted for the ban did so after extensive briefings on the national security ramifications of the transfer.

COSCO still operates a terminal in Long beach in a joint venture with SSA Marine.

The Port of Long Beach operates as a landlord. The Board of Harbor Commissioners leases port shipping terminals and other facilities to private firms. Port revenues are reinvested in new facilities and improvements.

SSA Marine, A PRIVATE COMPANY, operates container terminals in Long Beach, Oaklan, San Pedro

Operations commenced in December 2002.

SSA formed the joint venture Pacific Maritime Services, LLC ("PMS") with China Ocean Shipping Company, to operate a major container facility in the Port of Long Beach. SSA manages the facility day to day, and operations commenced July 1, 2001.

Foreigners are already major operators in U.S. ports. Thirteen of 14 container terminal operators at the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex are foreign-owned, including companies from China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Denmark.

Excellent post concerning COSCO. IIRC, didn't Clinton sign an executive order to allow COSCO to control or even sell the Long Beach Naval Base to Communist China. I wonder if Clinton had China's campaign dollars in mind, when it was closed??? I'm not sure of the date of it's closure as a US Naval base.
