I saw part of that.....that was a time when celebrities were also patriots......so long ago.....

both my parents are WW2 vets.....I can't stand to think this country is losing people like them, even with my own mom facing down cancer and my dad with heart failure....I will surely miss them and their generation....

Can anyone tell me what happened with Jimmy Kimmel Live? They had Quention Tarantino, Johnny Knoxville, then a skit. Then they were supposed to have Stewart on followed by three guys from Johny Cash's band. After what I determined as an excessive amount of commercials ( well over ten minutes ), they returned for the last couple of notes of the song then the show was over. Was Stewart even on the show?

Actually I thought Sam Jackson and Ewan McGregor did a great job. Even Hayden Christensen was okay and Ian McDiarmid was incredible as the Emperor. The only one lacking in acting ability was Ms. Portman.

Ian McDiarmid was the best of the overall six, IMO. I don't know if you can count him as an actor, since one was just an actor and the voice was dubbed in, but Darth Vader (between David Prowse, Bob Anderson and James Earl Jones) was my favorite, next to Ian.

Yep, consider that SW film considered to be the best, "Empire Strikes Back", is the one he had the least influence over.

Ditto. I still could watch that movie over and over, and still enjoy it. I was young when that movie first came out, and it scared the shiite out of me.

It certainly is sad to see today's 'stars' squander such a decent legacy. I definitely give the old and classy pros credit for keeping their (mostly Democrat) politics under their hats during time of war. It really doesn't bother me so much that people like George Clooney (who won Best Supporting Actor according to Yahoo! News) are Democrats-that's pretty much a given in the industry since the glory days of the 1930s. What galls me is they're so obnoxious about it, attempting to pass themselves off as more intelligent and well read than a man who possesses an MBA from Harvard and a Bachelors degree from Yale.

There's no one of 'note' in Hollywood anymore - there have been several threads recently about the demise of the true Hollywood hunk. Same thing goes for true ladies. I loved the clip of Bob Hope and the 'pretty young thing' and he said something to the effect of "just wanted to remind you of what you're fighting for." :)

At least Narnia won one Oscar! Whatever is the Academy thinking, not honoring its top-quality films? They show clips of blockbusters from the past (like The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur) but ignore the quality films of today.

I didn't know the Oscars were on last night< wen I flipped on the TV I saw John Stewart hosting something. And damnit if it wasn't the funniest thing I've watched in a while. Some jokes from his collection:

1. (cutting back from commercial) ".... and that is why I thing Scientology should be spread across the planet!"

I WISH they had the camera on the audience when he cracked that one.


2) Gay cowboy montage of classic cowboy movies doing really gay things. Personal fav, one cowboy looks at the other " What we are about to do is between you, me and the horse (pats horse's ass)


3) " I see Steven Spielberg is in the audience. Director of Schindler's List and Munich. I think I speak for all Jews when i say that we can[t wait to see whats next. Do I smell a trilogy?

4) "Bjork was going to be here but was accidently shot by the vice president"

The humor made up for the otherwise dry speeches and lame performances.

I'm fixing to put Crash and Walk the Line on our Netflix list. We enjoy watching movies with our kids, and it's easier now that both are over 16, though we still don't let them watch the over sex-saturated ones. They don't seem to like them, anyway.

Of the ones you mentioned, we've seen Cinderella Man, which was just wonderful, and Flightplan which was pretty good, too. We liked War of the Worlds, and absolutely LOVED Batman Begins, which our #1 son gave me for Christmas. We also enjoyed Ocean's Twelve a lot. We all loved The Island; it was a very life affirming movie. We've seen previews for March of the Penguins and Eight Below, but haven't seen them yet. We also enjoyed Collateral quite a bit; Jamie Foxx was terrific in that one.

I don't know if you would call it sad. This sounds simplistic, but life is full of horrors, accidents and bad things, yet when someone is able to reach out to correct these bad happenings, it makes me happy. So it is with this movie and the original Antarctica. There was no doubt that the dogs were loved (as it was in the factual story), so it wasn't sad because you know there is a great effort to rescue the dogs. In reality, the two surviving dogs were made heroes in Japan with statues.
