You got it. Armies are much easier and cheaper than jobs and housing.

Yeah, they ARE 'volunteers':

The 'volunteer' because they want to eat.

They 'volunteer' because otherwise, their familes will be starved or executed.

Oh, I imagine that a few of them volunteer because they are good little commie despot followers... But most of them just want to stay alive just a little longer.

"Venezuela Challenges US with 2M Voluntary Soldiers"

Celebrate Venezuela's new "army" by sending them 1 Million bodybags for future use.

It's time to activate the Girl Scouts. We're going to have to deal with this nut job and his 2M man/child army before long.

"If you guys find any good Hugo threads, please ping me. I'll do the same if you would like too, its something I kind of enjoy following."

Cool, we'll have a "Hugo Chavez is at it again" ping list :)

I wonder if he even has enough guns to equip 2 million soldiers. Those 100,000 AKs from Russia will barely cover the regular armed forces, and even if he transfers the army's old FALs to the reserves, that's only about 80,000 reserves he can arm.

Venezuela, ... aims to have the largest “voluntary reserve army” in the American continent by training two million civilians in the upcoming year.

In the "American continent"? What's that?

If I can't trust this guy's geography, I'm not about to trust his math.

Unless you have the weapons all you are creating is cannon fatter if you start a war with the US. Somehow I feel sorry for the poor fools under his reign, I wonder why.

I believe this is more for Chavez's domestic reasons and to shore up his budding dictatorship.

Well, I don't think he's leaving office just because his term is up, and I don't think that you think he'd honor that either. We seem to be dealing with yet another Latin caudillo who mixes populist poppycock with two shakes of Marxism and a dash of militarism all for his own childish ego.

He's building small arms plants. He's getting help from the Russians and the Chinese.
