That's interesting, we have to give them these bases or they threaten to harm us in every way they can?

I have not followed this issue or made a decision about it until now. With these threats the deal is OVER. So much for pleas about what great friends they are. Do what they want or face their wrath. I say we Giulani them and say keep your money...

"Retaliation from the emirate could come against lucrative deals with aircraft maker Boeing and by curtailing the docking of hundreds of American ships, including U.S. Navy ships, each year at its port in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the source added."

And what....continue their happy uberwealthy way of life without protection?

What do they plan on doing? Giving AlQuada their loots as bribes.

Lots of noise here for a country on the edge.

Wrong reaction. How many foreign countries will want to do business with the US now?

I worked as a commerial investment analyst on deals up to $1B; on deals more than that, the CFO had to sign off. Sometimes a deal just couldn't come together, despite working toward conclusion for nearly a year.

There are, at a minimum, tens of thousands of dollars involved in bringing a deal together. Include staff time and you're in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Every businessman who has been similarly shafted has threatened retaliation in some form. I don't blame the UAE in any way and would do the same.

It's called "when you kick a guy in the nuts, you're probably off of his Christmas Party invitation list."

What "bases" would we be giving them? Do you not understand? We are guests in THEIR ports, and they are threatening to kick us OUT if we block this deal. I don't blame them - we're about to bend them over when they have been very helpful.

You sound like Hamas, labeling as a threat something denied to you that you aren't entitled to.

The threats are to kick us out. I do not blame them at all. Dubai has been a great friend, no matter what else they might have done in the past.

Absolutely. Threatening to blackmail the U.S. should be a no deal starter. How about they let the US to take control of their ports for our military ships?

When you tell a trading partner that you don't care for them and don't want their business...you have to expect that they may return the favor. Can you blame them?

Lets get a few things straight, those usa bases were there to PROTECT UAE from Iraq. Dito the other pricipalities in the middle east. The UAE will fall without a security garrantee from the usa. I am begining to think the hell with the entire region, let them all behead one another.

However we told them that they are not great friends but rather they are terrorists and we do not trust them to manage some terminals in our ports. Do you expect them to agree with us on this?

So much for pleas about what great friends they are.

WE already showed that we're not worth having as a friend, we only take and then are stupid enough to think we can continue to take after we've kicked someone in the face.

Do you really think it was risk free for them to allow us to use their ports and landing bases? Do you really think it was free for them to provide security for our troops when they were on R&R?

Oh grow up. We are threatening to pull tens of Billions from them because their ..........Arabs. OMG.

I don't blame them at all. In fact, I'd probably do the same.

And your statements make it very clear that you have not followed or researched this issue at all.

THat's like sleeping with your neighbor's wife and then being upset with him because he doesn't invite you over to dinner.

I have followed the deal, pros and cons, and am still against it. They can threaten us all they want. They would sooner or later anyway in one way or another. That's one reason I was not comfortable with the deal but not the only one.

As things stood, they gained as much as we did. If they want to play hardball, let them. We need to extricate ourselves from having to deal with them if at all possible.

actually it is called reciprocity. our government is demonizing their purchase of the terminal leases and trying to stop it. thus they will alter some dealings with us as well. You expect to throw them out of the terminals in the US and there be no consequences to our access to their country?

It has nothing to do with money, it's about how you treat your friends.
