"In the original comic, the USA and USSR supposedly nuked each other into oblivion. Great Britain, which had moved to a leftist stance, then had a reactionary move to the right, and a fascist regime took over."
Then why doesnt hollweird just DO that.
They just have to monkey and eff things up all the time when it comes to comics. Rarely do they get it right.
I can handle some leftism in my comics. Im a grown up afterall. LOL
But for crying out loud why are they compelled to put things that arent there? I already know the answer to that unfortunatly.
Was does Moore say about this movie I wonder. I thought I had heard some negative remarks about it a few months ago from him.....
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_movies_blog/2006/03/vendettas_creat.html
"In Mr. Moore's account of his career, the villains are clearly defined: they are the mainstream comics industry particularly DC Comics, the American publisher of "Watchmen" and "V for Vendetta" which he believes has hijacked the properties he created, and the American film business, which has distorted his writing beyond recognition. To him, the movie adaptation of "V for Vendetta," which opens on Friday, is not the biggest platform yet for his ideas: it is further proof that Hollywood should be avoided at all costs. "I've read the screenplay," Mr. Moore said. "It's rubbish."

Hollywood won't portray our enemies as enemies (they aren't barking), because Hollywood does not recognize the bad guys as bad guys.
Actually, Hollywood won't portray our enemies as enemies because THEY are an enemy, also. Its sort of an unconscious collusion..

Umm, the comic book might be from 1988, but that doesn't stop the produces from mangling it to server their purposes, does it? Look at what the b@stards did to Starship Troopers.
Besides, in 1988 it was aimed at Thatcher.

A year or so ago, Hollywood did a similar thing with
The Chronicles of Riddick. this was a sequel to the cult favorite
Pitch Black (which actually was kinda scary). In the "Riddick" sequel, the bad guys were right-wing Christian types, and good was embodied in the Imam character from the first film.
Apparently, in Hollywood, and kind of organized anything, whether government, a corporation etc has to be the Evil Empire, and any sort of "little guy", even if he's a terrorist has to be the good guy.
Fortunately, Riddick mombed at the box office, but (unfortunately) I expect V For Vendetta to be a hit.

"... in 1988, it is set in england and it's general theme is that society must control government, not vice versa. It's not about Bush"
The graphic novel may have had nothing to do with Bush, but the movie does. The script was specificaly re-written as an allegory of the post 9/11 world. And face it, even the original graphic novel was paranoid, leftist crap. Alan Moore basically got paid by DC Comics for ranting against Margaret Thatcher. I'm sooooo glad the DC managment from that period was purged a few years back. That's the crowd that hijacked Batman for the remarkably disgusting anti-gun screed Batman: Seduction Of The Gun.

Christian Bale is the perfect Batman/Bruce Wayne.
He was great in Equilibrium too.
