News Advisory:

On March 24th 2006, members of Anti-Flag and Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA), the legislative leader on Depleted Uranium, will hold a News Conference about the military's use of Depleted Uranium in combat zones, including Iraq, and launch a petition drive. The musicians worked with the congressman on their new song, "Depleted Uranium is a War Crime" and premiered it with a congressional action on After Downing Street Coalition's website http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/8592

They will talk about new actions to raise awareness of our military's use of these deadly chemicals without studying their long lasting effects on humanity.

The talking segments of the "Song Depleted Uranium is a War Crime" comes from an October, 2005, interview conducted by Justin Sane of Anti-Flag with U.S. Representative Jim McDermott (D-WA).

WHO:

Anti-Flag (http://www.anti-flag.com) -- Outspoken political musicians, Anti-Flag, have donated songs, toured and spoken at many of our nation's largest antiwar protests. They are releasing their latest anti-war CD, For Blood and Empire, with a 24 page activist booklet on March 21st 2006.

Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) (http://www.house.gov/mcdermott) -- Rep. McDermott has introduced H.R. 2410, The Depleted Uranium Munitions Study Act. It was introduced in the 109th Congress (2005) and calls for in-depth studies to be conducted on DU and its effects on the health of those exposed to it. The bill has 33 co-sponsors.

Dr. Donald Broder, co president Physicians for Social Responsibility-LA (http://www.psrla.org) -- PSR is working to bring together health professionals to reduce threats to public health related to war, environmental toxins, and gun violence.

Jodie Evans, co-founder Code Pink Women for Peace (http://www.codepinkalert.org) -- Jodie Evans has organized several peace missions to Iraq, seen the direct effects of the US bombings, and has warned our government of the devastation that uranium munitions will have for years to come.

Tim Goodrich, co-founder Iraq Veterans Against the War (http://www.ivaw.net) -- Tim served in the US Air Force and provided direct combat support for operations in Afghanistan. He was also deployed to the Middle East during the intensified bombing leading up to the war in Iraq. Tim knows how much harm depleted uranium causes and visited Iraq as a civilian in January of 2004 to see the damage first hand.

WHAT: Launch of a Petition Campaign to Support Depleted Uranium Munitions Study

WHERE: Henry Fonda Theater Lobby, 6126 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028

WHEN: March 24th 2006 at 11 a.m.

WHY: "Depleted Uranium is our Agent Orange and will impact people's lives for decades. Dear Doctor,

I need your help with these symptoms I keep having.

I keep getting closer and closer all the time to making an irrevocable judgment that these people are actively, purposefully and deliberately giving aid and comfort to armed terrorists who are killing American soldiers.

I know their activities are being broadcast on Al-Jazera and Al-Arabia, where they only serve to recruit new terrorists and embolden current ones.

Tell me, Doctor, when I took an oath to "Preserve, Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States" did that oath have some "expiration date?"

Tell me, Doctor, why am I beginning ho have these almost-overwhelming urges to take action to defeat our enemies, FOREIGN and DOMESTIC, before they kill us.

Tell me, Doctor, what should I do????

Your appreciative patient, MB26

(Somewhat tounge-in-cheek... but less and less in jest every day.)

Bagdad Jim suffers from Depleted Cranium

Seriously, when the hell was the last time depleted uranium munitions were even used or needed in Iraq? The first week of the push to liberate Iraq and thats it I'll guess.

Not knocking anyone else's based on how near or far they were from the front lines and I realize in this war, everywhere in the two countries is "front lines", but notice how they worded this to get around the fact he was no where near the danger zone.

They pull the same crap with Ann Wright. Thirty five years in, she retires from the State Department, yet she's Colonel Wright who resigned in protest. Bull Sheet, she took ALL of her money and retired. She gave up nothing, she did not "resign".

She's quick to take credit as "special operations" but there are units that fall under SOCOM that do not dine on snake.

The trip to Iraq that McDermott and two other Congressman took right before the war was financed by an Iraqi businessman in Michigan(I believe) that was mixed up in oil for food program. He was a real estate person. He not only paid their airfare but made $5,000 donations to their campaign funds. McDermott returned the campaign donation but never paid back the airfare that I know of.

There was some bad publicity on the three for a few days and then it went away. That was the trip that McDermott called the President a liar while in Baghdad.

If this guy can actually prove that our military used weapons that kill or injure people then hasn't he proven we're guilty of war crimes?

A good military would only use weapons that have no ill effects on people or animals. I believe that's a UN rule.

Instead of deadly weapons, armies should have "kumbaya" singing contests. That would promote global harmony and world peace.

Actually, I don't blame this guy -- I blame the fools that elected him.

Exposure to DU munitions is generally fatal when they pass through your body. The effect is very similar to that of lead.
