That one never occured to me!!
Becki
Well in Clinton-speak, it depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is.
Remember, this is a Klintoon talking. Think how such a policy would bite them.
Eeeeewwww!
That's what I was thinking. Try wraping your mind around the articles title, " to block bill criminalizing illegal immigrants". It makes my head hurt.
We should be so lucky.
So either way, sounds like they already are criminals; the question/difference is what to do with them. I think the notion of crminalizing something that's already ILLEGAL is silly. Perhaps I'm just not getting. it. Either way, seems we should be focused on solving the problem, not semantics.
If need be, we simply build. We could house them until expulsion on retired military bases, for one.
I hear ya but the difference between felony and misdemeanor is hardly just semantics. Among other things, it tags the illegal as permanently ineligible for legal immigration at a later date.
I'm sorry, I wasn't directing my semantics comment at that, but rather at the issue in general. Criminalizing illegal behavior, it's just seems ridiculous to me, misdemeanor/felony, either was it's illegal, and so I don't understand why we're passing a bill criminalizing something that's already illegal. It's illegal; therefore it's criminal, so let's get back to the business of solving the problem. (my frustration isn't directed at you of course, just this whole thing in general). What's the point of this - are they making the consequences stricter? Why do they need to criminalize something that is already illegal?
As accused felons or convicted felons?
While it is a misdemeanor, punishable with 6 months in jail, to illegally enter the US. Being in the US illegally is only a civil violation, punishable with deportation.
Depending whose stats you believe, either a third or a half of those in the country illegally are visa overstays who have broken no criminal law.
By all means, lets turn the Irish barmaid or Lupe the leaf blower into felons.
