He also wanted to set up drug roadblocks and pull over anyone he wanted to, and fingerprint them.

You like that kind of guy?

He brags about being a tough sherrif, yet crime is not down in maricopa county and recividism rates did NOT drop.

That is what you call failing.

Add in the fact that he has cost the county millions of dollars, his men killed several inmates (note, inmates awaiting trial, not found guilty), and add in his harrassment of innocent people, how he set up someone and arrested him, claiming that he tried to kill Joe (he was found not guilty BTW, and is suing) and his slush fund...and on and on and on.....

Anyone can be tough on criminals, it takes a lot to be tough on criminals and fail at it.

Then how does he keep getting re-elected?

Its kind of hard to run against a guy that uses the media to leak false reports that you raped your mother. He owns the media here, and, quite frankly, there are a lot of voters that are ignorant. But, trust me, he is a house of cards, and when he falls, it is gonna be ugly.

I have checked him out on Google and found the following interesting approval pool.

http://urbanlegends.about.com/gi/pages/poll.htm?poll_id=0848098686&linkback=http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_sheriff_joe_arpaio.htm

Looks like his approval rating is in the 60's

"He owns the media here,..."

It should be noted that while Sheriff Joe Arpaio obviously has plenty of ardent supporters, he also has vehement detractors, including the Phoenix New Times, which has chronicled what it calls Arpaio's "serious abuse of power" for over a decade, and a political action committee devoted to recalling him.

How cn you claim that he owns the media when the Phoenix News Times is working so hard to get him out of power?

So? Teddy Kennedy has high approval ratings in MA.

Read up on Arpaio, he is bad news.

ah drug road blocks.
its as if you are saying our rights are being violated.
thousands of dwi road blocks every year, have you ever gone through customs?
driven a boat and had the water patrol stop you? we do not have all the freedoms your post assumes. do not transport drugs and who cares if he has drug road blocks.
and what does it mean to be tough on criminals and fail at it? sometimes the "work outside the box"kinda guy is needed.
as long as it makes inmates think that 3 squares and a cot is a lot different than he thought it would be is o k by me.

Actually, his drug roadblock got shutdown for being unconstitutional.

Same goes for his plan to fingerprint everyone stopped at the roadblock.

Same went for his webcam which was pointed at the women's toilet in the jail.

What part of More crime, no lower recividism rate don't you get?

"Read up on Arpaio, he is bad news."

I have read your links and checked out the article in "Snoops.com." It appears that the article is correct and while he has without a doubt made some enemies most of the citizens there feel that he is doing a good job. You appear to have some sort of personal vendeta against him.

His men once broke the neck of an inmate that was a parapelegic, he ordered investigations twice against people that were running against him, misappropriated money into a slush fund, set up a guy and claimed that the guy tried to kill him, etc, etc, etc.

If it were just one or two things, you could probably claim bias or vendetta, but open your eyes, there are hundreds of stories about his antics.

I don't have a personal vendetta, I have a completely clean record, I once held a federal secret clearance and just filled out the paperwork for another one in the near future. I just think that you need to dig deep on Arpaio. Lots of people here have, on the left and on the right.

Funny, I oppose this guy, and what do I get? People here accusing me of being a criminal and a McCain lover. That is pretty childish behavior against someone that has an opinion and wants to express it in a free and open forum.

I have never accused you of anything. I live in Tennessee and know nothing about Arizona. I have asked you if the recall succeeded and you have not answered my question. I have asked when he was last elected and you have not answered that one either. I posted the article because I have no tolorance for criminals. You may well be a great guy but you have not answered my questions, just ranted on about the sheriff.

maybe it has to do with the snow birds comeing home to roost.
i know our crime rate drops as the temp does.

statistics are fun when all variables are considered.

"Deputies have been involved in three criminal investigations since March 31 that underscore how Joe Arpaio prefers to operate the MCSO.

On that date, sheriff's deputies raided a Mesa towing business owned by Lee Watkins, a prominent political operative who supported Arpaio's opponent, W. Steven Martin, in the November general election.

On April 14, the MCSO raided the Glendale home of Chuck Carpenter, a Republican party official who strongly supported Arpaio's rival, Dan Saban, in the Republican primary.

On April 18, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office notified me that I was under criminal investigation -- at Arpaio's request -- because I published the sheriff's home address in my column and it wound up on the "World Wide Web" last July.

In the first two examples, other police agencies were either conducting or had conducted investigations into the allegations that led the MCSO to launch the raids. Arpaio should have stayed out of both cases.

In addition to these politically tainted criminal probes, there is a disturbing development in the fledgling campaign to get enough signatures for a recall election that would kick Arpaio to the curb.

On the weekend of April 16, the office of the Recall Arpaio campaign committee was burglarized. A computer with hundreds of e-mail addresses of recall supporters was stolen. Numerous other valuable items were left behind.

Recall leaders contend they were the target of a Watergate-style break-in orchestrated by the MCSO or Arpaio supporters. It's not like similar hanky-panky hasn't happened before.

"I feel this was a counterattack measure," recall leader Linda Saville said in an e-mail to supporters. Arpaio and MCSO officials didn't respond to my requests for comment about the incident."

That was one of many articles about the crap Arpaio pulls.

Would you be willing to sacrifice the constitution in order to meet your goals?

Remember, the large majority of inmates under his care have yet to go to trial and must be considered innocent until proven guilty. That is the American way.
