Bush Insists on 'Humane' Immigration Bill
California Chronicle ^ | 3/28/06 | nedra pickler

President Bush says no one should discount his ability to get a new immigration law from Congress, despite his struggles with lawmakers in the past year.

'Don't underestimate me,' Bush said as the Senate readied for a showdown over the issue.

Bush is insisting that Congress send him a bill that not only strengthens U.S. borders, but also allows foreigners to have a guest permit that lets them work temporarily in the United States in low-paying jobs. 'It's a humane way to deal with people who are making a contribution to our economy,' he said.

'I am disgusted by a system in which people are snuck across the border in the bottom of an 18-wheeler,' Bush said Monday in an interview with Canadian and Mexican reporters. 'This is inhumane. There's a more humane way to deal with our neighborhood.'

[snip]

A Senate committee approved a measure Monday that would permit illegal aliens currently in the country to apply for citizenship without first having to return home, a process that would take at least six years.

There was no immediate White House reaction to specifics of the Senate panel version, but it was more in line with what Bush has proposed than was the House bill.

Congress already has failed to give Bush several other priorities that he asked for during his second term. [snip]

Bush said in a news conference last week that he's been using up his political capital on Iraq at a time when many Americans are losing confidence in his leadership on the war.

When asked whether Congress is underestimating him on immigration, Bush responded, 'We'll see. But I will keep speaking out on it.'

"W wants them here, for reasons of his own."
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.........................
I voted for him for I could not vote for the traitor Kerry as a vietnam vet.
But if we look at his backround: Ivy League boy, from Ivy League dad, who said no new taxes then well, you get it.
The Ivy league has brain washed our leaders into the globalism camp: this is the result,,there is no USA just a neighborhood of north America, why stop our neighbors from coming here when it is all part of the globalist plan??
Bush's are part of the ruling elite: mixing it up with the sultans of oil, rubbing elbows with the rich of the world, even billy clinton is dads boy and bushs new brother..Elites for elites we are left leaderless.

You're not the only one disgusted, President Bush. What would you do to stop the smuggling of Illegals? Throw open the borders? Because that is what it is going to take.

I am also disgusted. I'm disgusted that we just made our our income taxes, and the Illegals get a free ride off of what I have paid..

I'm disgusted that I have to turn my back on you and the Republican party, both of which I was so proud of..

I'm disgusted you preach about defending our country and allow undocumented aliens to set up house here, without fear of reprisal.

I'm disgusted that I have to be disgusted...

He's right, there is a more humane way to promote illegal activity...making the activity LEGAL. All our Senators saw this weekend were lots of potential hispanic voters. They are going to do 0...zilch...NADA.

If you want to be humane to Mexicans, Mr. President, put some strong enforcement on our borders so they can't cross illegally and put us and themselves in a bad situation.

And try thinking about what would be humane for U.S. citizens.

>>>>>It's not like he hid any of this from anyone during either election. If you voted for it then, you live with it now. That's just the way it is. But don't blame him. He never hid anything from you.

BULLoney!

IN the 2000 Prez race, Bush proposed a $158-billion increase to Medicare over 10 years, with $12-billion per year over 4 years to help the eldery poor out with prescription drugs. Today under Bush we have the biggest expansion of the federal government since LBJ created Medicare. A trillion dollar drug entitlement program for all seniors, no matter what their financial situation is. That is called cradle to grave, liberal socialism.

In 2000 Bush proposed spending the taxpayers money more wisely to improve national educational standards and create a voucher system for parents. With the new 2007 budget just released, federal Education spending has gone up 86% since Bush took office.

Lets not forget the three huge discretionary spending bills Bush signed into law. A transportation bill containing over 6,000 earmarks, a huge energy bill and farm bill.

Bush and the GOP COngress are big government Republicans, not fiscal conservatives.

I agree with your solutions. I respectfully suggest that you add that those tent city jails be located near the border and the incarcerated residents be put to work on the fence.

The most humane thing to do is to build a wall to keep the invaders from even attempting to cross in unsafe areas.

Should failure to uphold one's oath of elected office be an impeachable offense? I think so.

This really concerns me -- 11 million unhappy people that could become very angry very quickly.

I have an easy prediction for you; they will. And it won't matter what legislation is or is not passed.

I only got fooled in 2000. By the time 2004 rolled around it was pretty clear what the agenda was. I don't understand how anybody could have missed it.

Ditto here.

Isn't there already something called a 'work visa' that allows temporary residence for work? What does this new work permit have that isn't already available from a work visa?

"I am having the worst case of buyer's remorse humanly possible."

Me too. I've never been more angry at a Republican President than I am with Bush on this issue. He has failed us miserably on the border. So much so that it makes his huge failings on reining in the budget look inconsequential by comparison. Lets face it, Bush is a dud like his father. You can't tell me that in a country of 300 million we can't do better than this guy.

"Apparently, I have woefully underestimated you. I didn't realize you would exceed the entitlement spending of LBJ and then try to convince me that the 12+ Million illegal aliens in the country should be given amnesty so they to could reap the benefits of your socialistic entitlement programs."

Very sad but true.

It has a "pathway to citizenship" to appease all the angry illegal foreign nationals who demonstrated in the streets last weekend against our lawful legislative process.

hey, hey hey--what's the prob? A federal, state and local task force just arrested five (5) illegal aliens in Miami this past month.
And they confiscated two joints, a roach and a Swiss army knife.
