Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe... Was for it's frist hundred years The Sacred Heart Cathedral till the whites left the area because of high crime.
My formerly Catholic, legal-Irish-immigrant husband says that's true. But we Baptists are still downtown and we're growing.
Uh, that's not true. The Cathedral was redesignated when the diocese was dedicated to the patronage of the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe.
There are still whites downtown, though they have to be very well off to be able to afford the real estate. And, many attend Mass at the Cathedral, which has eight Masses on Sunday, with 7500 average attendance.
There's very little crime in downtown Dallas, especially around the Cathedral. There's a high police presence there due to the Dallas Museum of Fine Art and the Morton Myerson Symphony Center, which is two blocks from the Cathedral.
