Agreed. And what makes this worse than Reagan's mistake, is that this was allowed to continue after 9/11 and during the WOT. If the government admits they don't really know for sure how many illegas are here, and where they are, then that also means we don't know WHO they are.. how many terrorists could be amonst them..??

Reagan's mistake was that he trusted his predecessors to actually enforce the law, they didn't. I wouldn't be morally against allowing people who have been here for 5-10 years with zero criminal record and the ability to speak English, but history has shown its a failure.
