The NYPD and FBI teamed up to solve a pair of vicious Russian mob killings from 1992 - nailing two Brooklyn men for the rubouts.......allegedly masterminded by a young wannabe, Marat Krivoi, who ran a tough crew of thugs with an eye toward impressing his father-in-law, Russian mob don Boris Nayfeld.
The murder indictments "should remind all criminals that they can never be sure that the long arm of the law won't grab them when they least expect it".........
Prosecutors charge that Krivoi, buddy Vitaly Ivanitsky and an unidentified accomplice lured the suspected informer, Boris Roitman, 21, to a deserted spot on Shell Road......Krivoi allegedly instructed the accomplice to blast Roitman with a shotgun. As the dying man lay bleeding, Krivoi is said to have ordered, "Shoot him again. Make sure he's dead."
In the second killing, Krivoi and Ivanitsky ambushed a local pool hustler, Thien Diep, 24 ........Krivoi allegedly held a gun to the man's head and demanded money. When Diep refused to take the men to his home, Krivoi allegedly shot him.

These were extrmely viscious crimes----the perps probably have a rap sheet a mile long, which assisted in their apprehension.

While at the HAM Fest in Dayton Ohio, a group of young Russians were selling a bunch of electronic test equipment in the flea market. They did not look like the types you would have gone up to and cracked jokes about wanting to see their purchase receipts for everything.

Robert Friedman's book is the first to describe in detail the Russian mobsters who have established criminal enterprises throughout the world. His prose sometimes makes it sound like a sequel to Pulp Fiction. A Russian killer in Brooklyn murders a boy, he writes, "by picking him up like a ragdoll with one hand and plunging a knife into his heart with the other."
But more than any other reporter he reveals how sophisticated, ruthless, rich, and multinational Russian criminals have become.
Among other things, he writes, they have arranged the sale of military helicopters and a submarine for the Colombia drug barons, and they have acquired influence over the American National Hockey League by threatening players from Eastern Europe and Russia and extorting money from them.

The History Channel's excellent expose of the Russian crooks pulled no punches. How they emigrate from Russia, go to Israel to pick up all the freebies, then come to the USA settling in Little Odessa, Brooklyn, the center of their crime activties. They are greeted here in the US with all kinds of tax-paid goodies b/c they claim asylum from persecution. And some use fake passports claiming to be Russian emigres seeking asylum.
They are into all kinds of frauds---staged auto accidents, Medicare/Aid fraud, insurance fraud, ID theft, securities fraud......you name it.

Not to mentionm the fact that Medicare was ripped off to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, which we pay for, and that the rest of us
have to pay more for insurance b/c of these scams.
Ask your Congressman or US Senator to give you the informaton from GAO reports, Congressional Record articles and the like, that have statistics on Russian immigration, and lists the benefits allotted under so-called "political asylum" laws. And tell them the Russian gravy train must be stopped, once and for all.
But...but...but...it's the Mexicans!!!!
Illegal immigrants come in all sizes shapes and colors. They don't always sneak across a desert border at night. They come in jumbo jets as well. The willful blind eye that our leadership, both Dem and Rep, has for decades cast at this problem for the purpose of farming votes must end!

There are non so blind as those who refuse to see.
There's something very satisfying about it when the NYPD solves these old cases.
I just wonder how many people these two have slaughtered in the ensuing 18yrs?
...or additional other crimes they've committed.
That's no doubt bad. But criminals need to know that this stuff doesn't vanish. The system doesn't forget.

I'm only half a cynic -- I'd say the system is over-burdened.
I think my post #10 gives the reason why. When you get to be my age, I'll bet my next pension check that your cynicism will be as full blown as mine. Kinda gives ya somethin' to look forwaed to, huh?
I refuse to give into cynicism. It seems like defeat or surrender to me.
