Rosenbaum is an ass.
United Flight 93 has been described as many things, this author repeatedly calls it a pony, which I think is a great affront to th epassengers on that flight, and the other 3 aircraft hijacked that day. I think flight 93 was 40 people realizing the FAA had been wrong on how to handle hijackers for 40 or more years ever since the first one occurred on a Continental in El Paso I believe. I believe they had an understanding we can die letting the hijackers accomplish their goals, or we can die ending this, and they ended it.
Rant on:
Rather than take nail clipper's, leatherman tools, knives, and whatever else, if every passenger was issued a nice Kershaw or Buck, or whoever won the bid knife and all 40, or 400 passengers had one, no one would be very inclined to get stabbed 80 or 90 times while failing to do what they'd set out to do. Of course we could also go back to the 60's when this country was a little more free and probably 2/3's of men had a pocket knife on them most of the time but realize how far we've fallen just by the fact this article / review was written. The FAA and now TSA went exactly in the opposite direction following September 11 and people still say we need these safety measures we have to make airplanes gun free, knife free, letter open free, oh yeah breast milk free, while granny and her granddaughter are felt up as they go through security, great plan guys. Sorry .
Rant off

The FAA had not been "wrong for 40 years" in the way of handling hijackings. They were not suicide missions before and the people were not in danger from having a plane diverted.
