School will be held on May 1, despite protests By Larry E. Reider

Description: Important message from KC Superintendent of Schools

Posted by editor - Fri Apr 28, 2006 13:10:49 PDT

For the record, every parent in our community needs to know that all Kern County public schools will be open on Monday, May 1.

I am making this statement because we received reports on April 26 of rumors circulating that schools will be closed on May 1. Nothing could be further from the truth.

We expect students to attend school every day, all day.

We take exception to anyone who urges students to participate in protests that rob them of crucial instructional time. It is our sincere hope that students, parents and organizers of a planned May 1 demonstration recognize that education should be the number one priority for the students of Kern County.

We ask parents to join us in making certain that students that should be in school are in school.

Time lost in the classroom is learning lost that never can be recovered.

Larry E. Reider has got some balls. Good for him. I wonder what will happen to the children who do skip school.

I wonder what will happen to the ones who show up for attendance (so the taxpayers get charged for their presence), and then skip school.

That's exactly what the California State legislature is going to do - show up for attendance so they get paid, and then skip out to the demonstrations.

Time lost in the classroom is learning lost that never can be recovered.

And money that will never be received.

Punishing the kids won't make a difference. Punish those responsible: Parents.

Enable truancy fees.

Nothing will happen.

To make things worse, we're in the window for taking the STAR tests (reduntand/redundant).

Humph. This is written in English. They have no idea what the heck this says. They probably think this is another communist A.N.S.W.E.R. flier begging them to join the "Anti-American fun"!

Health and medical benefits, that is. Probably food stamps and welfare. Free legal assistance among other benefits.
