I just wish we had started this back during the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo-- we have so much catching-up to do, it's not funny.
If you tried to sell what is happening as a screenplay, it's so ironic & absurd nobody would buy it:
1) Ted Kennedy demagogues the Evils of Big Oil-- and while we starve for oil, and he fights a wind farm offshore of his compound...
2) Our Navy uses nuclear power safely, in the most hostile environment ( Marine service ) without a fatality for 50 years-- yet people think "The China Syndrome" was somehow "more like real life," and fear nuclear power...
3) Oh, Hell, I could ramble on, but the point is, the problems facing us are engineering problems which have largely been solved already, and whatever few remain can be solved with time, talent and money, like any engineering problem.
The real, underlying problem is a lack of leadership, and political will to fix things.
