"My idea is too give the shrill, myopic, dead-horse-beating, border bunnies a snack and a nap. Milk and cookies?"

Why do you get so offended when Americans want their borders secured? Vicente Fox is probably taking this National Guard news better than you. La Raza I can understand, but I'll never understand the anger some Americans have toward anyone who wants to secure this country.

I just wish he would have done this before his approval ratings went down the crapper.

Some people are understandably skeptical considering his past inaction. Talking is not acting, we'll get excited when he actually ACTS on this issue.

1. The presence of NG troops will depend on political climate of each individual state.

True.

2. There will not be consistent coverage.

Very true.

3. There isn't the manpower to make a difference.

Their presence there will make some difference. The Minuteman Project proved that if there is a stronger presence, the border intruders won't come across there.

Here's the problem. One reason that the Minuteman Project worked so well is that there was an unfounded threat - a perceived threat - that the Minutemen were "caza migrantes" or "migrant hunters" because they were armed. Because of the false perception of some really negative consequences for tangling with the Minutemen, the border intruders were not too excited to cross in their areas of operation. The border intruders don't feel that same intimidation with Border Patrol. All BP does is round them up, give them water and a few bandaids, possibly a sack lunch, and bus them back across the border. Big deal!

The National Guard presence there would serve to be somewhat intimidating if it is done right. But it likely won't go far enough. And it is certain that if President Bush couples this new border security effort with more promises of amnesty and citizenship, the effort will fail and the border intruders will not be stopped.

Bush deploying the National Guard is a classic Boob Bait for Bubba's stunt. Deploy a few troops temporarily with great fanfare, serving only to placate the gullible so as to get permanent amnesty for 12 million illegals.

Here's what he won't announce: Build wall. Enforce laws. No amnesty

Why do you get so offended when Americans want their borders secured?

Offended? On the contrary, I'm having a great time tormenting the border bunnies! :-D

And I'm happy whenever anything is done to better secure our borders and our nation in general. If "being offended" is really a concern of yours, you might want to check on some of these perpetually pissed-off folks running 'round here. The border bunnies aren't hard to find. Just go to any thread not related to immigration, and they'll be there railing about illegal immigration.

Until they start building the wall it's just smoke and mirrors.

Although I strongly advocate border security in the form of stationed National Guardsmen and/or a perimeter-wall it doesn't address either the 20 million+ illegals already here (with their third world diseases, high crime rate, and welfare addictions) or the desire of many more millions to come here in the first place. The only way to deal with that is to repeal the anchor baby laws, end the welfare freebies (medical, education, etc.), and severely punish illegal-hiring businesses. Do that and we'd see a huge exodus of illegals back to their third-world homelands.

ALL of this needs to be done. ....and if this story turns out to be true and the NG will be placed on the border in sufficient numbers, it's a good place to start.

Will the National Guard be federalized and yet operating within the states?

I refer you to the NG lead by "Black Jack" Pershing who were chasing Poncho Villa around before we entered WWI>

Will they have the same limiting instructions as the border patrol?

Nooooo, if shot at, return fire.

What will they do when they are shot at as happens with the minutemen and border patrol?

Look at the previous answer.

Will we change enforcement inland?

no, we'll just start it.LOL

Will there be a renewed call for amnesty.

not if we have anything to do with it...
amnesty was tried under Reagan and look what it got us!

>>>>I figure both W and McCain asked themselves " now, what could we do to shut these people up ( us and quite a few dems )while we work out an amnesty program. "

Crossed my mind too. Bush and McCain, are closely linked together on this immigration issue, just as they were on CFR and the anti-torture legislation. Two peas in a pod. Open borders and illegal immigration has always been the position of liberals like Ted Kennedy and political libertarians. What does that make Bush and McCain?

"President Bush says there is no way we can deport 12 million people. It is just can't be done. Mexico did. "

Exactly....It IS workable. You deport them state by state, county by county and town by town. I know where thousands are in my community. Hell, just go to Wal-Mart and have at it!

"We have expelled over 6 million since bush took office - I realize that's not enough for you, but I am just answering your question."

"Wow...if your stat is true, then clearly the argument that we can't deport 11 million people is bunk."

THANK YOU!

"AOL Poll:

Should the military be used to tighten the U.S.-Mexico border?

Yes 88% No 12%"

Here are the results to the other 3 questions that are asked in this poll:

Q2: Do you view illegal immigrants as a military threat?
Yes 68% No 32%

Q3: Should the U.S. expand fences along the Mexican border?
Yes 88% No 12%

Q4: Should illegal immigrants be given a chance at citizenship?
No 67% Yes 33%

I think this sums up the public's view that REAL ENFORCEMENT on the border will be OVERWHELMINGLY applauded. Are ya'll listening to us in Washington? Do the right thing and the people's view of congress will skyrocket, put out talk about change followed by inaction and the approval numbers will continue to slide.

"rounding up ALL 20 million illegals..." is easy! At any one point in time, half of them, 10 million can be found at Wal-Mart. Send out the posse to round them up. Wait one month, for the gov-ment checks to come out, hit Wal-Mart again. Problem Solved.
