Having captured illegals build the fence would also create the same problems the germans had when they had forced prisoner labor in munition factories. Funny how so many of those munitions where duds.

I have to admit, that was a strange thing to say. We need a Berlin Wall to keep people from escaping our totalitarian state?

Yeah, of all of the open border I've read, that one has to be the strangest.

Building a wall can be done with or without the Feds help.

Unfortunately, much of the land is owned by the feds, and any patriot who wants to stop the invasion would be guilty of "trespassing." Sickening, isn't it?

"These illegals wouldn't be coming across all these years if it wasn't for all the freebies they get from the States"

ya know your posts get DUMBER BY THE MINUTE

if Bush and the clowns before him had been doing their job, securing the borders, fining employers who hire illegals and deporting illegals; the illegals would not have been able to cross the friggin border and collect the "freebies" which again are FEDERAL FREEBIES...food stamps and welfare ARE FEDERAL NOT STATE MANDATES!

I have neither the time or the inclination to respond to any more of your inane posts!

"Also, for any of the usual suspects whining about immigration on this thread, a 250 person posse of sheriffs in Arizona only captured ONE immigrant last night."

That proves the borders can be secured. All he had to do was announce his plan and the invasion stopped.

The Feds could refuse funds to the local/cities/states for acting as sanctuaries. Just as they refuse funds for not having 'clean air', speed limits etc.
But they won't.
Forty years of ignoring the problem has led to a situation that is totally out of control. There will be no solution to this (save the 2nd Amendment) because neither party wants to acknowledge this fact.

I'm not against a physical barrier, but no reason to believe an unmanned physical barrier would stop 90% It would be circumvented.

Umm... If Howlin is a "Protected Poster" here I will drop my membership in FR post haste. I support your position on this thread and have not seen you respond in any way but a rational defense of your (our) position or a sane rational challenge to Howlin's rants and fact-less attacks. If disagreeing with Howlin is not permitted here I'd darn well like JR to comment so I know what weird rules are in effect. I expect more than half of us would leave in a New York minute if facts, and rational discussion are trumped by ad hominem attacks and puffed up rhetoric.

I agree, there is no way deploying troops to the border could be a long term solution. It is a good solution now, but only if the plan is for troops to secure the border while a major fence/barrier/wall is being built. For those of you that think a virtual fence will work- the reason it won't is because it takes constant funding to stay effective. If funding was ever cut to a virtual fence (which of course it would be sooner or later) it would not be readily apparent to we the people until we are again flooded with illegals. If an actual fence is built, then if it is not maintained properly- it would be obvious.

Take the captured illegals, and sentence THEM to build the fence!...............

Now THAT is a great plan! If Bush comes out with a plan to place the national guard at the border, and explains that he has not changed his mind about "guest workers" but accepts that people want to see control of the border first AND if he then follows through in a visible and real way, then you will see a surge in popularity, and the GOP might actually gain seats in November.

It would sure be a big turnaround for him, though. I'll be watching with bated breath.

You do know that a wall to keep people out can also be used to keep people in don't you?

The only people who flee to Mexico are criminals. Most of the world wants to live in the United States, for good reason.

Not according to the ravers. The United States is now a 3rd world country because of all of those illegals.

Until they start building the wall it's just smoke and mirrors

Yup. They will have some rule such as do NOT engage the invader...contact border control...observe only.

Good start, but I'm waiting for the wall

We need to secure the border permanently. Troops will be effective, but they are not a long-term solution. Using troops while a fence is being built is the only long-term solution that will work.

I suspect being caught and arrested or sent back by a human, is the surest deterrent.

I am not expert in the realities on the ground so maybe you can help me here: When the BP catches folks and quickly sends them back to Mexico (I believe that that happens occasionally), don't they typically turn right around and cross again? I think it is obvious that they do.

I assume that they are turned over to Mexican authorities right at the border?? They aren't taken deep into the Mexican interrior or anything are they?

It looks to me like our policy of giving them a box lunch and sending them "in the direction" of home is no more than a minor inconvenience for them. Like being delayed by a flat tire.

Am I wrong about this???? Please....any barrier opponent, help me out here. (Do we fingerprint them and/or take a DNA sample before sending them home?)

Not yet; despite the efforts of the open border elitists and their cheerleaders.
