Bush set for immigration speech

BUSH SET FOR IMMIGRATION SPEECH

WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting set for a prime-time speech on
immigration tomorrow night.

Aides note the 8 p-m, Eastern Time, speech will be the president's first from the Oval Office that does not involve Iraq and the war on terrorism. And they say that reflects Bush's
"passion" on immigration.

He's speaking as the Senate is poised to clear a compromise measure including his idea for a guest worker program. However, a rival House bill is limited to a border crackdown, and meshing the two won't be easy.

Stand Up For America !

"We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

It's crunch time. Here is a quick read...
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1638066/posts

It won't give you all the information you need, to know why we're 'toast', but it will certainly give you a flavor of what our 'Esteemed Senators' are cooking up for us. (Of course we all KNOW who is going to have to 'clean up the kitchen' after they're done... The American Taxpayer!)

If you really want to catch up, I'd suggest, after you read Grassley's comments at the link above, you come back here, and start reading at the (most current) end of this thread, and keep reading backward on the thread, taking brief side trips to see any links 'Just Piper' has posted ...until you just can't take it any more.

IMO, our 'leaders' have been, and are, selling us down the river... Goodbye America! ...and the Senate bill only makes the situation (much, much) worse.

Can't wait to find out who the 36 were as I missed some names in the spoken tally.

Probably all Republicans except for three or four.

the Final Vote and part of the package is that federal and state must consult with MEXICO before the commencement of the construction of any fence or wall or other method of securing the border.

Of course the U.S. "must." Bush already agreed, over a year ago, to merge our nation with Mexico and Canada, into that "North American Community" thingy.

At the CNN link, I only see votes on amendments.

Nothing on the final tally yet.

NEXT STEPS:

1. The Senate is expected to try to pass its own immigration legislation in February. It will be picking among bi-partisan Senate bills that are .enforcement-only. like H.R. 4437 and also bi-partisan bills that are weak to moderate on enforcement while adding massive guestworker programs and some form of amnesty. (NumbersUSA will soon be mobilizing its 124,000 members to limit Senate action to enforcement.)The President is expected to push the Senate to add some form of non-citizenship amnesty and a guestworker program.

2. The Senate bill and the House.s H.R. 4437 will be put in a Conference Committee of negotiators from both chambers. With heavy participation from the President, they will hammer out some kind of compromise.

3. The compromise Conference bill will go back to both Senate and House for their approval, after which the President will have to sign before the bill becomes law.

4. NumbersUSA will continue to work closely with the Immigration Reform Caucus in the House to ensure that maximum pressure is kept on House leaders to prevent a bad bill from coming out of the joint Conference Committee and to kill any unacceptable bill if it does come back to the House floor.

5. H.R. 4437 contains an amazing number of wonderful provisions, but not all that are needed. Successfully guiding it into law will not be the end of NumbersUSA.s work. We will continue to fight for later legislation that addresses chain migration, birthright citizenship, green card fraud and much else. And we will continue to mobilize citizens to pressure the Bush Administration to stop violating its oath of office and start enforcing immigration laws on the books.

Bush sides with Democrats in the Senate and a few Republicans and GOES COUNTER TO the majority of Republicans in the Senate.

It's not the first time and shows how sorry the legislation is when he needs the votes of liberals to get it through.

The democrats are open borders all the way. Unbelievable, the GOP controls three branches of government yet Ted Kennedy is writing policy.

AMNESTY PASSES
By Michelle Malkin · May 25, 2006 05:59 PM
Vote was 62-36.

http://michellemalkin.com/

Here's the lowdown.

Update: How perfectly symbolic that they’d pass this bill on a day when Vicente Fox is in the United States. He’s set to address the California legislature at 4:30 PST and then head off to a state dinner being given in his honor by Schwarzenegger. At least one state assemblyman won’t be attending either function.

Why CA Assemblyman Chuck DeVore Won’t Attend Vicente Fox Speech

"This is not the final scene of this blockbuster that we have on the Senate floor," Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) warned before the vote began late this afternoon. "There is another act to go."

GOP Majority Leader John Boehner statement just received via e-mail:

The American people expect Congress to secure our borders and stop the flood of illegal immigration, and House Republicans responded by passing a strong border security bill that re-establishes basic respect for our immigration laws. Now that the Senate has passed a bill, we owe it to the American people to seek common ground on responsible solutions, while always stressing our most important priority is to secure our borders and stop illegal immigration.
"I'm committed to working with Chairman Sensenbrenner, Chairman King, and House Republicans to ensure we produce a strong bill that meets our commitments to the American people. I would urge House Democrats, who have constantly advocated troubling policies that encourage open borders and invite more illegal immigrants into our country, to join us in supporting a strong bill that addresses the concerns of the American people and makes our borders more secure."

GOP Rep. Mike Pence statement just received via email:

"The Senate has passed an amnesty bill. Amnesty by any other name is still amnesty. The American people do not support amnesty for illegal immigrants.
"This does not mean, however, that we cannot work together to find a solution to the problem of illegal immigration. The real rational middle ground can be found in a bill that is tough on border security, employer enforcement, and contains a no-amnesty guest worker program run by the private sector."

I always knew WND watched FR closely but this makes me wonder is here where they got the story?!

* Did you know that the powerfully influential Council on Foreign Relations – often described as a “shadow government" – issued a comprehensive report last year laying out a five-year plan for the "establishment by 2010 of a North American economic and security community" with a common "outer security perimeter"?

http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=49992

It's very possible they have been looking at the thread that hedgetrimmer, calcowgirl, texastoo, I and others have been posting many documents to:

North American Union to Replace USA? ("is this the plan?" alert!)
