President's Immigration speech - Live thread

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim

Thank you for admitting not all "guest worker programs" = amnesty. That's all I was looking for - good night.

Same old tired bullsh*t

Blah blah blah . . . we increased funding by 60% . . . blah blah blah . . . in 2008 we may add a few more border patrol . . . . yada yada yada...some ole shit

I won't send another dime to any Republican candidate! All my contributions will go to http://www.minutemanproject.com/

I will also stay home in November. I am extremely disappointed. Shocked. Turly shocked.

---It's not Bush's fault.

The Senate is the principal source of corruption and political weakness for America. ---

So, Bush has basically left the House, which already passed a tough enforcement bill, twisting in the wind and has joined our wishy-washy Senate in ignoring the will of the American people. How is this not his fault?

Did I miss the part about the fence? Did I miss the part where he praised the House for their good work?

This is also for all the other "big wall of United States" proponents. You said you've seen D.C., and it's like a fortress.

I've seen it to, and it sickens me. It's bad enough that we have all those walls, barracades, they closed down streets, all because we gave in to the fear of terrorism.

The Great Wall of China is a fabulous tribute to human capability, but I don't want my country surrounded by some ugly wall. We're better than the Chinese.

I'm not against fences in high-traffic areas. But I won't build a fence around my yard, and I don't want a wall around my country.

There is hope. If there is guest worker program then employer accountability would have to be a part of this.

I thought that FreeRepublic was a conservative web-site meaning they stood by the GOP.

Only when the GOP espouses, promotes, or defends conservatism.

Or so I was led to believe.

1,500 posts!

BTW, I fully agree with your dire warnings about health consequences.

Remember the mumps outbreak in Iowa, for an object lesson.

We can begin by enforcing the immigration laws and sending them back one by one as we find them.

That's the tactic of a DEMOCRAT. Go back under your rock.

Awful defensive, arent you? Rome wasnt built in a day, just exactly what did you expect him to do? Push a button and, poof, they all disapear? Get a grip, and when you get back to DU, tell them how you showed me..

Typical Newbie..

It's more than half.

Way more.

One idea from a co-worker is to give the last guy over the border a 1/4 mile piece of the border to guard - with the assurances of all of the trappings of the US including citizenship. The catch is that the next guy that gets past him gets his job.

I feel ill. Im living in San Jose surrounded by poverty stricken, illiterate, non assimilating aztecs.

PICK UP YOUR TRASH AT LEAST!!!!!!

We caught 6 million, 4 million got in..and the President proposes 6,000 back up troops over the next year, while calling on us to pass legislation in the next two weeks.

Somebody of REAL importance make....THE CALL!

So, you consider conservatives "Nazis" now. Thought so... Democrat.

No dumbass I consider Nazis, Nazis. When they start throwing around "final solution" they are Nazis.

Well, the NSA has a list of almost every phone number called since 9/11 - that's perfectly legal, necessary, and not spin.

I wonder if George and Laura will be able to escape to Kennebunkport in time, before Texas becomes the new Mexican state of Tejas? Get enough illegal Mexicans who think the S.W. was stolen from them legalized, and this could become the case.

I believe he did address the role of employers. He mentioned that it is currently difficult for employers to verify because of fake i.d.s, etc. That's when he proposed a more sophisticated form of ID card that can't be faked.

That says nothing about the fact that it is a federal felony and there have only been three arrests in the last year. Not including the dog-and-pony arrests in the last couple of weeks. If that's his tip-of-the-hat to that then it was more demogoguery like the canard about opposition calling for mass deportations.
