I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

so what. we need a national ID card. if having a strong encryption social security card, was a central policy towards employer sanctions for those that hire illegals - I'd take it. the government already knows tons of information about you, an improved social security with tight security wouldn't mean anything, except for the "black helicopter" crowd.
For every illegal immigrant wounded Marine, there are 100 times as many filling our prisons. 25% of the Federal system are illegals and 29% of the California penal system. This is beyond pandering.

Good talk about border security up front. I liked some of what he said. The "guest worker" proposal and his please-pretend-it-isn't-amnesty amnesty went over like a lead balloon here. He's changed his language a bit, but he's still trying to put lipstick on a pig and dress it up and telling us it isn't a pig. Amnesty is amnesty. Rewarding criminals is rewarding criminals. Our laws are still now being enforced and the solution is not to just declare the criminals to be "legal". He says we must enforce our laws, says we should deport those caught at the border and those who came here recently, but then he says that we shouldn't enforce those laws against and should excuse the criminals who have been here for a long time and done things like bought a house.

And that's about how I feel right now. I have no desire to be forced to learn Spanish just to talk to a repairman. But that's the path of least resistance that GW is taking us down.
