The PA pols backed down and didn't even get their raises but the people were mad as hell.
Here in NJ, long time ago, our esteemed governor sought to put a tax on toilet paper. That was the final straw!!! He did not survive the next election. There is always a tipping point and you never do know what it is going to be.

They are so over the top, you almost think they are satire but they aren't....
which makes them depressing,
and more than a bit disturbing.

I've noticed a pattern with you dirtboy. After you badmouth people and get called on it, you always talk about how 'supportive' you are. I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds that interesting. I have long supported the moderators here. I only started to criticize them recently because I felt they were taking sides. And I also think a mod should not express personal views while posting as a mod, other than what deals directly with his moderation duties.
Oh, and if people badmouth me, I bite back. I tend to be polite to those who are polite to me. What I usually see are people who start a fight complaining because I returned in kind.

I think that the Senate knows that more enforcement measures than they care for are going to come out as part of the final legislation. Fencing is one area I speak of there.
Giving a bit now will make it look like less of a concession in the conference part of this task.
For once, I feel that the house is flexing its muscle and the Senate is feeling the pinch.
Maybe I am wrong here, but I think alot of us are going to be surprised by the end legislation. Surprised in a good way that is. AH maybe it is just wishful thinking....

Immigration increased, if it did, because there are jobs here. The economy is growing and there is work to be done.
It has nothing to do with anecdotal trash thrown at the President for talking about guest workers.
If there were no jobs there would be no illegals.

One of the favorite troll lines: "Bush spends like a drunken sailor". Never mind that Bush doesn't spend at all, and only Congress does, but hey what are facts among friends? Congress passes the bill and Bush signs it. They are all equally responsible for the out of control spending.

Bush started talking seriously about a guest worker program, illegal crossings have jumped. That right there is a solid indication that we need to have security in place before changing any existing laws. I don't mean to bust your bubble, but i keep hearing this statement made continuously and it is disingenuous.
The border crossings did spike, but they spiked because of the use of the "Amnesty word" which did not come from Bush. it came from the detractors of the "guest worker program and from nowhere else.
Once the press picked up on it, and printed that word in virtually every story, now numbered in the thousands for the past two years, it is no wonder that people in Mexico have erroneously come to the conclusion that amnesty will be enacted shortly and they better get moving or they will lose the opportunity.
But we both know that just ain't so, don't we?
To: CougarGA7
Exactly!
And we can do it with all the strays.
I mean spoil them rotten, treat them well, love them to pieces....and let them play with whatever comes over the fence :)

"Bush spends like a drunken sailor"
I am tired of all sailors being called drunks.
How about Bush & Congress spend like a Drunken Kennedy.
Of course Drunken Kennedy is redundant.

So, we will instead build a wall to secure our border? And that wall will be the solution? I think this is just a humane response that is utterly useless in reality.
If we are truly serious about the problem, then don't go wobbly. Notify the proper Mexican officials that parameters are being established and that they will be land mined. I would predict a vast decrease in the desire to cross the border.

While we are surrounded by wrist-slitting and anguished cries of betrayal and vows of November punishment .... This thing continues to move in our direction. Unless this is one of those patented Senatorial-procedural-hocus-pocus-thingies ... the Sessions amendment passing is great news! WOO-HOO! You're right.
The senate is pulling one of those hocus-pocus procedural thangees on Inhofe's amendment. H'es even asked how it happened.
Tony Snow is on FNC channel now.
