Takes himself a little too seriously, but he's a good guy.

Once again, LM was not saying he/she wanted border security FIRST. I was replying to Onyx, who was talking about border security FIRST.

My comment is simple. It means punishing the party which is closest to conservatives' positions is INSANITY.

The howls around here are NOT for more "effective" leadership. A FR poll shows 10% hate Bush and 20% want to turn the whole shootin match over to the RATs.

The first immigration bill which passed 55-40 CLEARLY shows that the problem here is NOT the GOP it is and always has been the Party of Treason. Expecting 100% agreement within the GOP is an absurd expectation. This is not a totalitarian organization.

Using your logic the RATs aren't so bad since 8 of them also voted against it.

A 'triple-layered' fence according to the article.

Past that, I have no idea.

In the time I've been here, I don't ever remember seeing the mods so interactive with posters. Have you?

Neither have I seen a moderator take one side to this extent.

That's exactly what the Libertarians said a few years back in Washington state about Senator Gorton...

I don't recall these libertarians. But FR is unimportant to the defeat-Chafee movement anyway. It's going ahead with Laffey to defeat him.

The simultaneous implementation of a guest-worker program will undermine the efforts to secure the border by encouraging even more illegals to flood across. It also makes it clear that the security measures are just window dressing. The real message is "welcome illegals".

Exactly.

Well, they usually take some time and effort to organize and it's not at all clear to me that, if it comes down to that, they'd be able to pull off a discharge petition before the session ends. You are right though that it's a definite possibility.

The one thing that bothers me here like nothing else, is the simple disrespect of the President.

Amen, brother!

Ahhhh. Thanks.

Seems to me, that we ought to start deducting say $10,000-25,000 from remittances back to Mexico for every assault on the fence, perhaps for every illegal that gets across.

If we don't sock Mexico where it hurts the ruling elite there, hard to fight it all on the border.

Yes. Course, I was a lurker back then. One of the great threads of all time.

What does it mean? Walk softly 'cause they carry a big stick—and they're not afraid to use it when times get tough.

I have tremendous respect for them. Best thread I ever read was once when Jim posted some of the background chatter between the mods regarding bannings, thread/rule enforcement and the like. Spent nearly two days reading through it all.

Senator Maria Cantwell-at-all and turning over the Senate.

Exactly right, and if you noticed today, she and Murray voted against the Session amendment regarding the fence.

"I think a universal ID card with strong sanctions for hiring illegals would be a lot more effective, however."

National ID card, eh?

"Police, vos papiers, s'il vous plait!"

Bush and the Senate Republicans can't go after employers too hard. It will damage the business base. They have a delicate balancing act to do here. Unfortunately, on Monday night the President didn't balance anything and repeated his previous position using prettier words.

The BorderBots got nothing and they know it.
No amnesty, EVER, is what some BorderBots want...but that's too hard and too mean for the rest of the electorate. Can't do that.
A national ID card in order to work will freak out libertarians. Not only that, but remember that the business base wants to keep the cheap labor.

But a Fence...an Isreali-style wall out in the middle of nowhere...well, THAT takes care of the problem of flow long term, without sending in the cops after business contributors, without damaging the existing labor pool, which is being utilized for a profit, and without making Americans have to carry papers in order to work like the French do.

The Fence is the Solomonic compromise here.
Also, it starts saving more money than it costs right away, because wherever you build it, illegals go elsewhere to cross, and as it becomes more complete, fewer leave Oaxaca in the first place. Fewer illegals means dramatically lower social welfare expenditures.'

Give them the Fence, and over the long run America remains Anglo-Saxon, English speaking, and blue collar Americans will have greater job stability...long term.

Short term, the BorderBots all come out and vote for the GOP in November because the Democrats will stop building the Fence.

The Fence is the saving move.

Sorry.

Terrible for an ESL teacher.

Uhhh . . . a parot speaking the Bill of Rights and voting in Congress according to the Bill of Rights would be infecting people with truth

a lot more constructive to The Republic

than traitors Feinstein, Boxerface et al who infect people with globalist, Marxist, Machiavellian tyranny lies and delusions.
